help with 3000 to pro tools mbox2

Can someone guide me in how to sync up my 3k with protools. Still super new to this part of equation. I got my 3k, 16 channel analog mixer and pro tools mbox 2. Im guessing with the equipment i have im gonna have to go 8 outs to mixer than to mbox?? A little help out. Thanx fellas

what are you trying to do? are you trying to track out individually and mix in the box or mix on the board and record the result?

What is the most practical way to get the individual tracks from the mpc to pro tools is what im trying to ask? I have the 3k, mbox 2, and the mixer. should i scratch the mixer? newb here...thnx

in my opinion, the most practical way would be to get a soundcard with more inputs!

if you want to get individual tracks into PT one at a time, i would recommend tracking out of the stereo outs and soloing the track you want on each individual take.. then you can line them all up once they're in PT

otherwise i would suggest sending 8 outs to the mixer and record the stereo out of the mixer into the mbox2

have a play around and see what you like best..

I would suggest this way, only because I do everything seperate from the main outs of the mpc and it's pretty time consuming...but! Like Arks said, mess around with each way and see what works...everyone's workflow is different.

I'd also like to try this out (got my first Pro Tools system a week ago).
Can I just ask - is there a 'Note on' feature in Pro Tools LE so it waits for a sound before recording. Otherwise I can imagine it'd be difficult to get everything in sync. I've read about some kind of chop 'to transient' command - but not had the chance to use it yet. (Using PT LE 8.0)
I don't have a midi interface - so can't even try a MIDI master/slave link. So is this 'to transient' method the way to get all the tracks (seperately recorded) synd'd up ?

i found the midi in protools fairly lacking, and ive since switched to logic..

however, the workaround most people use is to insert a couple of blank bars at the beginning of your track, which gives pro tools (or whichever DAW you use) time to catch up (ie so it doesnt miss recording the first few notes)

just saw this. um, get one? you can get a standalone USB midi interface fairly cheaply..

i dont know about the transient feature of PT sorry (unless you're talking about beat detective, PT's answer to recycle)

ps you guys are going to get really sick of recording this way quite quickly - you might want to start saving for a soundcard with more inputs

free your mind from digidesign, it will open up your soundcard options considerably.. pro tools is the NS 10 of the modern studio, ie, something crap that has somehow become the "industry standard". and pro tools LE is just a money spinner for digi.. the hardware is very overpriced, and the software has numerous artificial limitations placed on it which force you to spend more and more money just to get the same functionality you get with the standard versions of cubase, logic, etc. "but if i want to take my track to a "pro" studio they will be using pro tools there".. i realise this is one of digi's main marketing points, but its fairly easy to migrate your audio into pro tools if you are ever in a situation where you need to take something to a studio that uses pro tools. and dont be sucked in by the hype, theres plenty of high end studios that dont use pro tools. just my opinion anyway (i used pro tools for about 5 years but finally said enough is enough and switched to logic).
