Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Today i've successfully replaced backlight on my MPC3000 LE
just by sliding the new ( solderless) backlight on top of the old one.


but after putting MPC together i found that pads 3,4,7,11,15
won't trigger the sounds at all or even show their MIDI names ... :(

i am in a shock .....
what could go wrong while replacing the ( solderless )backlight?

I saw this in that other thread we had going...sorry to hear about it.

I would guess that it doesn't have anything to do with the backlight itself or the installation, but that something got knocked loose while you were under the hood?

Can anyone weigh in?

well kindah checked them by just touching and checking all the
wires n ribbons manually ...
I don't have a digital multimeter to check
connection and voltages professionnaly :(

still absolutely shocked , can't concentrate on anything
trying not tonpanic .....
but my MPC3000LE terrifying thoughts of loosing
it forever coming back :(


I cannot send it to service anywhere ...
there is no MPC servisers here in south of France
and it would b insane expencive to sent it to Forat
overseas ......

so I gotto do it by myself .... somehow

I suspect the ribbon off the pads is damaged. It is not uncommon that hairline fractures get created in that "poor" design of a ribbon extension from the pads to the board. Some environments cause the plastic to get brittle and this stiffness damages the thin wiring lines.

I kindah slowed down on posting on the forum as I got the impression that I've annoyed some people with my desperate  "help me" posts .. :(

Thank u for the link to Cimple Solutions repairs in London, 
i've called them , a friendly guy told me I could ship MPC3000 to them 
for diagnosting and repair if I couldn't find a solution myself.
But before I deside to sent MPC to them, I still like to try to order new sensors sheet from US to test if it would make the 5 pads work again.

As i can hear ALL  samples from the "dead" 5 pads triggered when i just press Play button to play the sequence I've created when the 5 pads were still working. 
Does  that  fact indicates that all internal parts work well
and that the only problem might be in the dead Pad Sensors?

Hey Jazz, don't despair...you'll meet all different kinds of people here on the forum, some willing to help, others not so much...

I agree with mpc300...that definitely sounds more like the culprit but harder to prove without a little patience and some calm nerves...had an experience with a ribbon cable once where it was literally falling apart in my hands because it was so brittle...at my job they taught us to just replace them if we thought we had bad ribbon cables in our gear...

Just be patient, you have already proved the playback engine and audio work when you played your sequence so while you wait for the replacement just double check nothing else is loose or frayed, burned etc...

you kind words give me support and direction :)

I am trying to run another "last" test :
Hook up a Midi controller keyboard ( Korg Kontrol49)
to MPC3000 and see if it would trigger the samples
on the any or dead pads....
but somehow I can't get the Midi settings right in MPC3000
to work with the midi controller-
no sound comes out ...?

yes I've examined the cables and reseated the Pad sensors ribbon-
also checked that the MiDI keyboard triggers all the samples well
even on the dead pads.
ordered a new pad sensor from vstservice in US
waiting for it - more updates in a week.

Good News:
The New Pad Sensonrs Sheet from VST Services in US have solved my dead pads problem ---- i am back on the track now :)

But i must worn anyone that is going to attempt to replace their pad sensors sheets on their MPC3000s ---- it is not as easy as they say and there are some rough corners in the process:
You gotta be extremely careful and patient when unscrewing the metal plate that holds the pad sensors as some screws could be stuck ( like in my case) its very easy to cause more damage :roll:

Another obstacle is to completely remove the sticky glue from the metal plate that holds the old sensors..... i have experimented with few liquids, window cleaner, alcohol...
nothing could clean the glue off ...

Untill i've found something "silly" that worked really great - the nail polish removal without aceton .... believe it or not :oops:

here are some pics of sensors replacement process:

1) Here you can the stubborn screw on the Sensors board that i couldn't remove....
so i kept the board on the metal plate.

2) on the left the french nail polish remover "sans aceton" without aceton that removes the old glue from the metal plate completely !

3) since i couldn't remove the pad electronic board -
as a solution I had to put the metal plate between two books in order to not damage the electronic pad board underneath while sticking the new pad sensors sheet on top
and pressing it against the metal plate with a towel to even it out....

thats it --- the pads work like new :)
