Troubleshooting the 8 outs card for 2000XL

Whats up everybody..I'm new here.. here's my 2nd post..hoping someone might have some idea's...

So i use the 2Kxl and decided to upgrade to the Flash card drive and also extend with the 8 outs card.

I'm not sure which Os is on my mpc exactly but its the one i had to upgrade to to use the flash card reader(if that means anything) ...

I installed the 8 outs and card reader by myself. It seemed pretty straight forward. The card reader works but the 8 outs never has. Ive tried looking around on the mpc to figure out how to send each track to each out and have had no luck? Do you have to do that? Sorry if i sound half retarded but i feel like i am cause Ive just never used my mpc like this in the 10 years of using it. So yea, what Im trying to do is be able to record 8 tracks at once into pro tools at the same time. When i plug 1/4 cables into the outs and then into their own channels on my digi 003 nothing happens. I arm the tracks properly in PT and hit record but it doesnt get a signal form the 8 outs card. This is what leads me to thinking that its gotta be something you have to set on the mpc itself? am i right? If anyone knows how to do this or has a tutorial video on how to make it work id love to see it or hear about it. I spent the cash on this thinking it was gonna make my life easier and so far its been pointless to have it in my machine...any help or pointers would be great!!

Yeah man, in the mixer area you must route pads to the outputs.... stereo samples with be like 1/2, 3/4, etc... cause they are stereo and require a left and right... but mono samples with be routable to a single output.

poke around because I dont remember the exact screen its on but you must choose the output you want to send each sound.

Hey its a start...if you happen to find the screen someday tell me which one it is...route to pad? wouldn't it be routed to track? Like i want to be able to track my kick, snare,hat, etc etc on each indivdual PT track. Cause as of now i set my metronome up and step record each track one by one to pro tools. Ive also always used 1/4 ins and outs, would midi cables be required to actually link my mpc's clock with the pro tools clock? cause that would be dope too...

just go to the 2000xl internal mixer screen.... look around. you route the sounds to the chosen outputs. poke around for 3 minutes and you will see it. I forget the exact screen it is on but it aint hard to find. if that doesn't work for you then read the manual.

By the way... once you route the sounds, the channels you routed them to are talking the the 1/4" outputs on the back of your mpc... the ones that are on the board you installed.

In the mixer screen (shift + (#?) key), there is a box called 'INDIVID'...or something like that.

Hit the corresponding F-key to go there.
Choose the drum program you want to edit (you must have your program loaded into DRUM1-4 to edit the individual outs).
Now you will see a screen that looks a lot like the mixer screen.
Take note, these settings are PER PAD...not per track like you mention (you get used to it, and it's awesome).
So go to the bank you want to edit, A-D, and hit a pad. You will notice it is now selected on the screen.
At the top of the screen there is a little box with most likely a dash in it. This is where you set up which output each pad goes to.
Move the cursor into this box and rotate the wheel. Numbers should start to show up.
That number is the number of the output you are routing that pad + sound to.
Take note also that stereo samples MUST go to a pair of outputs, 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8. No way around that, so if you want it to be mono, make your sample mono.

That's it, and it's all in the manual.

Remember, the output settings are PER PAD, so you can use/abuse this however you want. Also remember that if you swap out a sound, that new sound is STILL assigned to the output, since it is per pad, not per track or sample. Pay attention if you start swapping Snares where Kicks used to be.

thanks for the info..ill have to look into this more...I'm not understanding how a pad is going to play the whole sequences i create tho? your saying for example if i want the snare on out 1 i have to set the snare pad to that out? weird..i guess ill play around and see what happens,..thanks for the post regardless...

well what did you think the individual outputs were for? it aint an 8 track sequencer, it's a hundred+ midi sequencer.... so you gotta pick outputs for the sounds not the tracks. It's just like the internal mixer, each slider is for the volume of the individual sounds... not for entire tracks.

oh ok..i gotcha now. Sorry like i said i don't know that type of stuff cause i haven't used it that way ever...i thought id be able to route 8 tracks to 8 outs...i don't even use the mpc sequencer these days..i just sequence everything in pro tools through the stereo outs..track by track...then arrange... I don't have effects on my mpc so i like to get everything into pro tools in skeleton form and then mix...thanks for the pointers tho...respect..

put it this way, it aint the amount of ram that keeps the mpc relevant these days.

HAHA obviously. Yea i just never used the 8 outs on one through my 10+ years of using the 2kxl so this is like learning something on a machine that i thought i knew inside out...for the first time..lol..im gonna try these tips when i get to the studo tonight and see if i can figure it out...

I realize this may be a bit off-topic, but it seems you are under-utilizing the MPC in this manner. If you just need a sample playback device with the same "sound" then just pick up a S2000 or S3000XL. They have sampling features that really put the MPC to shame, plus you can interface them directly to your PC and transfer samples.

Hi all,

I'm in the same case of Aries (I've never use my 8 outs ), but I already know how to set the outs to the right pad.

My question is about the Main out, in fact I've just receive the MFC42 filter and I would like to use it with my 8 outs like this:

MPC2kxl => Out1 => Lead Sample => go to the MFC42 Stereo In => go to the mixer in track 1
=> Out2 => Kick & Bass => go to the MFC42 Mono In => go to the mixer in track 2
=> Main Out => All other Samples => go to the mixer in track 3

So, I would to know if it's possible to assign a Xsample to Out1 on the 8 outs and have all my others (exept the Xsample) on the main? Or must I configure each pads to be routed by the 8 outs only, and don't use the Main out?

My goal is to apply differents effects on the Lead sample /Kick & Bass without touch the others samples.
Any help would be great!!
