how do i trigger the sample without it playing through all the way?
what i mean is...
when i sample a long sample and hit the pad it plays all the way through..
i want to set it so when i press the key it will play UNTIL i let go.
so that i can make the sample stutter and when i let go i can hit another pad without it overlapping??????

i mean when people make all these tracks with samples that stutter [restart several times before end]
they arent using the loop mode are they????

to stutter the start of the sample, i would set the sound to mono on the params screen (shift 6, f2). this way when you hit the pad more than once it will cut itself off (stutter). then i would use the note repeat button and set the timing value on the main screen according to how fast of a stutter I want. or I would go into step edit and program the stutters.

you could also use loop, setting a section at the begining of the sample as the loop area, but then you would need another instance of the sound in ram to have it play all the way through.

thanks a lot!!!!
does setting it to mono affect the sound quality or anything?
or just a setting?

no, it just tells the mpc wether you want that sound to cut itself off when you re-trigger it or have multiples versions of it play at the same time.

to make it simple
on the mpc 2000xl atleast
go to params screen of the pad, fo to the bottomn right hand corner, switch it from poly, to notes off.

notes off will only pay the sound up until the point you let go of the pad.

mono is basically good if you're going to loop a sound and you want it to cut itself off when the sequence loops, or you rehit the pad again. for what you're asking, notes off is the way to go.
