What up ladies & gents?

I'm a former MPC2000/XL user and I'm looking to find the following params that were available on the 2000 also available on the 4000.

This is the screen from the 2000XL that contains the params I'm referring to:
Image

I'm mainly interested in decaying the tail end of samples/sounds. I remember with the 2000, being able to decay the tail end of samples to remove extra little things (another noise or sound) that I didn't want to totally delete from a sample/sound that if left on would give the sample/sound character and allow for a serious decay envelope on the end.

I've tried the decaying on the 4000 and I can't get the sounds to respond. The decay setting available don't seem to have an affect on the sounds.

Hopefully y'all know exactly what I'm talking about and can help me find the same controls on my 4000 which will help me achieve the same exact results which might be hidden for some reason.

Please help y'all!!!

Thanks!!!!

Hi,

I'm no 2000-user but it looks that this machine only supports ATTACK and DECAY.

In the 4000 you have to think the envelope in terms of

ATTACK - DECAY - SUSTAIN - RELEASE
... /\
.. /..\_________
. /...................\
/.......................\

I am not beware of the "correct solution" by mind, but try to set
sustain and release times to zero

The first guy who replied is right. If you want the 4000 to act like a 3000 / 2000 with decay trimming the end of a sample that plays thru when you hit the pad you have to go zone, set sample to one shot, go to amp page set sustain to zero, adjust decay to taste you will have EXACTLY what you want. I'd pull release to zero also, but it won't do anything unless you're in another sample mode, loop no loop sample. That's it you have it now. Help me find 16 levels filter attack decay I'll be HAPPY

Well no method is as easy as the 3000 / 2000 16 levels filter / att / dec etc . . .

Here are a few though. Set the QLink to pad control, on the send page, hit the pad, pull up filter put it in replace mode, you now can open and close the filter to taste. It's retarded to deal with in the sequencer, it will record what you do, but you gotta be careful not to mess with the QLink for that pad anymore. So skip that way.

Another way is with the Mod Matrix and set either Tilt Vel or Vel to the Filter Cutoff, then put the mpc in 16 levels velocity mode. I'd also turn off vel sensing, Mod Matrix Tilt Vel to Amp depth to 0. This means you have no dynamic control over the filter, but you at least have a more MPC like 16 level filter. This is the way I'm going about it, and if I need velocity work with filter work, which I WILL need, I'm going to have to tailor this method a little more. But so far this is the quickest way with minimal set up, NO WHERE NEAR as FAST as the 3000 but 3000 is NO WHERE NEAR as "high fi" sounding as the 4000. Which is what I need. And I HATE Softsynths etc . . . too much mousing and too slow, plus I'm sitting on the couch going crazy on the 4000!!!! Well it's on an ottoman while I'm on the floor, and my 2 Great Danes lay on the couch!!!

So there you go DJ A-Sharp. Just got done listening to I am not a human being, there's like 4 different drum sets happening in that song, and they all work together. As a DJ I'm sure you have a knack for that sort of thing. I was impressed by how they pulled it off. Dammit, I got more to learn and more to do.

Hi

I got the mpc 4000 since 1 mouth now, and i'm very impressed by the workflow and the features. I feel that is the mpc that i alway wanted (I use"d to work on the 2000xl and the 2500).

But i still not find a way to apply a short decay on the end of a long sample " (it work for short sample like drums but not for longer sound, the decay the middle of the sample).

If you have any ideas

one-shot samplesrgot to prcise that i work on "one-shot samples" and with drum program. Perhaps the decay act in a different way when pads are setting on"As played" or in Keygroup program.

Also the release doesn't seems to work when i work on"one-shot", it work only on"As played".

I think i have to change some work habits that i got on my older mpc's.

Yep...go to Program/Edit 1/ set sustain to zero and then you can adjust decay. If you want real time decay control go to Q link-Set Up, hit the send tab....set a Q Link or q link slider to pad control in the "transmit" field...assign decay and you're good to go. 4k, baby...no one does it better.

Just go to Q Link-Set up/Send then set transmit to pad control... Assign cutoff..for filter use your slider to adjust it in real time..
