connecting an external monitor to a macbook

has anyone successfully connected a monitor to their macbook?

i just took back that vga cable thing or what ever it's called cause it wouldnt even recognise the samsung monitor i had connected to it.

everything plugged in fine but after good searching for drivers for the screen for mac.. i couldn't find any & googling help on the matter gave me no information i was after, basically it said it should all be sweet

i wanna do this so i can kick back & look at what i'm doing on a bigger screen not my 13" macbook screen

please let us know how i'm supposed to go about this & what brands of monitors you've had success with

i'd really prefer not to go out and buy another computer screen right now, i got too many other things on my list i need & already have 2 different samsung monitors

Go into Apple's system preferences, click on display and detect your external monitor.

i did that multiple times, restarted, did it again. nothing happened at all

Did you try hitting the top F7 keyboard key to toggle between the Mac monitor and the external?

so have ya'll successfully managed to hook up these monitors

i went searching for drivers but samsung don't do drivers for mac it seems.....

It must be a different feature on your MacBook's F7 button than what is on my MacBookPro's F7.
I've hooked up several external monitors to my MBP with no problems.

i have 2 samsung monitors..

have a search man, i can't find **** all

I hooked up my monitor with no problem. I just bought a VGA cable and a Miniport to VGA adaptor and hooked it up. There werent any drivers necessary. I have the regular Macbook and a Dynex monitor.

that's exactly what i did.. but it didn't work

i might take my macbook & screen into a mac store n tell the cunts to hook it up for me

i bought a mighty mouse & i'm gonna get one of these...



plug the screen in and kick right back...

Check out KB Covers for rubber overlay shortcuts for your MacBook. I got one for my MBP with shortcuts to Logic. Plus it keeps the dust out.

used to have my black macbook hooked up to 32 inch no problem, now my 17mbp is hooked up to 28 and no problem also...but I was either using mini dvi to dvi, now mini dvi to hdmi connection

Probably not a bad idea. It's got to be something simple.

i took the cable straight back cause they're not cheap really & after reading reviews on the apple site they had a lot of bad reviews so i thought **** it and **** it off

i'm going to buy an external keyboard anyway if i can get this screen thing running so for like $10 more i'll buy that actual logic keyboard

but cool to know you can get the rubber for the macbook

some people might think of it as lazy but i don't wanna obstruct my work flow looking for what a button does i just wanna do it

if i can get this screen thing down i'm pretty much set, just waiting for my copy of logic to arrive
