im not too sure about the difference, but im trying to decide wether to look for passive or active monitors. if anyone could help that would be tight juss to hip me to the different real quick.

active means they have power. so u save money instead of buyin passive which needs an amp. I would get active. The samson reslovs are kinda hot. they also have a dial to swithc form 3 diff freq response's which is pretty cool.

I have the samson reslovs 80a,they are good nice clean sound and good for bass.

i personally not feeling the samsons, tannoys, is my opinion. and also powered monitors are better, unless u can afford a real expensive amp. the compnies make an amp to fit the speakers response/ or vide versa, so u gonna get a real good combination there.

bet thanks! cause i was told one time that active monitors might throw a mix off because it may seem like there's enough bass or too much highs or something. but i was juss clearing it up thanks!

I would roll with Active (amp for each speaker built-in). It's much easier to transport and the amps are especially designed for the speaker. The M-Audio BX5's are nice for a small bedroom hookup.
