i used a keyboard for years to make beats and that was all i had that was all i knew. i got a mpc 1000 about 2 or 3 months ago and i'll admit it is a little frustrating getting started but between the book, this forum, and youtube i have got very comfortable with it. just give it some time within 6 months you will have that thing rocking. for me i'm still trying to develop my ear for sampling or putting a sample with my own beat. peace.

I'm in the same boat, learned beat making on keyboards and actual 808 & 909's. Sold them all to fund buying a Moog Voyager, Roland Juno 60 & RS-505 Paraphonic and a DSI Prophet 08 PE.

I bought the MPC 1000, thinking I'd load my own original samples...wasn't so easy, nor has learning the machine. I even upgraded to the JJOS 3.12 & bought "Beat Making on the MPC1000". It reads really well, however I'm still struggling, but I know it will all snap together soon (I hope :? )

Hell, if I can master subtractive synthesis and rock true analog beasts, surely the 1000 will come to me...right? Just gotta take some time.
