about sampling drums from old vinyl

hey everyone i got a question when you sample drums from old records do you take what you want from any part of the song or do you try to find a part of the song that it open? ALSO i know it s all in the filtering and eq but is there anything else i should know thanx in advance

That is what I normally try to do is look for a part of the song that is open, but like you said if you can't that is where filtering and eq come in.......! Its a personal preference!
