Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

So I emailed Akai again, about their shitty update cycle, and lack of customer support.
totaly expecting nothing......
holy shit I got a call the next day.

I inquired about Os updates or if the OS could be open sourced.
The rep told me they will update the OS if it needs it, but to his and akai's knowledge it is perfect.
I called bullshit. and how it had last been updated 2 1/2 years ago. I also brought up how they drop support for products that are still buggy.....his response....

The software Devs are in a "bubble" and no one knows what they are doing until they do it. And no one even knows what they look like.....
Ha! again bullshit.
so after all is said and done he politely told me to **** off(not in those words) and that he would submit my feature requests.

Oh well I tried.....I have to say the 500 OS development is dead in the water.....Love the Mpc hate the company.

by 2011, you'd think a company like akai would allow the right hand to know what the left hand is doing.
stupid.
this is why you should support independent developers. small operations with bangin products and good support.
that's pretty much impossible as far as a drum machine goes, but there are always good software options like that.
you simply can't trust akai or other larger groups to do the right thing

Hi,

When I first got my MPC I contacted Akai also after reading the bug list on this forum, here's the response -

As far as any updates, we do not hear of what is coming until they are releases to the public on our website.
If you have any specific feature requests or bug reports,
I would be glad to log your comments as an official feature request.
These requests are delivered weekly to our development team.

What I think would help would be if we could have a single, clear list of confirmed bugs, and then the community here vote/rank that list. We take the top item and focus on that, and those of us up for it submit feature requests for that top item.

Just some thoughts!

Cheers,
LW

I think we all made some kind of attempt to bring Akai to release a new OS. They just won't listen, why? Because the MPC's are not their children, Akai gave them up, Numark is just a step-dad. Consider MPCs the bastard-child of samplers.

Sounds like new features are very very unlikely, and bug wise, perhaps the latest OS on the 500 doesn't have anything really seriously broken that can't be worked around or at least understood/avoided.

I suppose I'm saying yes it's a ball ache not to have any official support, and I don't know of an open OS for the 500, but people are being productive on the unit on the latest OS, and enjoying it, that's the main thing to me at least.

Cheers,
LW.

chop chop will not work without the waveform

I could care less about "chop shop"
I'm talking Adding sustain and release, audio thru etc.

but you are correct. it still good.....
on a side note the freeze bug has killed a few projects, so its still there.

I do enjoy it, my thing is the hesitation about supporting a company that obviously doesn't give a crap. as I do plan on a 1ooo soon. ebay I guess.

I gave up on my unit a year ago because it crashed when i was doing advanced stuff. (like instrument programs).

Hahahaha! Good one. There is some potential in this machine, but the software doesn't just cut it.
