What should I look for price wise on a used MPC1000?

I am looking to buy a used MPC1000. What would be a an average going rate for them used right now (February 2011? What do you think is an attainable good deal?

What problem issues should I be looking for in buying this. I know some of the older units have some pad problems even before use and that obviously it is a better deal to get it with a hard drive and ram maxed.

Any other thoughts?

RAM upgrade isn't important, you can get that cheap and install it yourself


red & blue models have the old, less reliable pads (unless it's been upgraded by the owner)

a black model is more likely to have the new-style pads (but not guaranteed)

if it comes with a JJOS password that saves you buying it yourself - how much it saves depends on the version of JJOS

i got mine off ebay for 600$ (blue model with pad upgrade, jjos2, 80 GB hdd, 128 MB ram). in germany they usually go for 600 - 800$

I would suggest checking pads,buttons(tact switches),and data dial.Ram and hard drive are very easy compared to actual repair work.Hopefully it is a hands on used purchase.Also bought my 1000 used
and it was a mpc1000bk with the old pad set.Good luck TYPO
