Hi,

I've been trying to sync up my RC-50 with the MPC1000. I manually set the same tempo on both machines. I compose a drum loop on the MPC and use it as the master. I press play on the MPC, my drum loop starts and my RC-50 (set to slave as "REMOTE") automatically starts recording, so I record a bassline. When I get to the end of my bassline, I hit REC/PLAY on the RC-50 and my bassline is now looping along with the drum loop. The drums and bass loop together and everything is fine for a couple minutes, but it eventually goes out of sync. I think maybe it's because I'm manually looping the bassline on the RC-50 and it's not EXACTLY the same length as the drum loop on the MPC. Is there a way to set the exact same loop length on both the MPC and RC-50?

Thanks

Thats something you'll have to figure out. The RC-50 is a multi-looper and aimed at recording live play. It doesn't matter if the BPMs are the same, the length of the sample in the MPC has to be the same length recorded in the RC-50 and I don't think that it has a trim feature. You'll have to use your ears to the max and get the right length in the RC-50, which can be done with practice. Either that or get another MPC.

Ill-Green, thanks man. Yeah I've been reading a lot about this and it seems like the RC-50's MIDI function is really not well designed. So lame.

I use the mpc and rc50 together, i dont use MIDI sync. All i do is make sure the seq and rc50 are set to the same tempo - and they stay locked . Theres a few other things that makes it work though:

1. i have silent loops on the phrases im going to use- if theres nothing on the phrase to begin with, then that can cause problems, and this is a simple way to to solve it.

2. i use MIDI to tell the rc-50 to start and stop - not with any of the sync or time code things but with cc messages. cc80 can be set to start stop phrases amonst other things

there might be a few little details with regards the rc50 settings that i cant remember right now but i'll have a look in the next few days.

I have the same setup sometimes, but I never had a problem with it. If you set the MIDI correctly the RC should follow the MPC.
The problem is, that if the RC is a slave than because none of the BPM is exactly the same your RC loop is getting time streched from the exact original tempo and the RC has a very poor time strech so you can hear that digital sound.
So what I mean is, if you have a 120 bpm tempo on the MPC and sync it with the RC, the tempo is gonna be like 120.6 bpm on the RC, but it will follow the MPC. Are you sure that you sync it correctly and not the internal clock what the RC uses?

just bumping this to show my way of getting the rc50 and mpc working together. This works better than using midi sync for me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoPylKRFlvc

loop pedal stuff starts at about 2'40

1.The mpc and rc50 are set to exactly the same bpm.
2.the loop pedal guide is set to off.
3..the rc50 has a silent wav file in each phrase im going to use. This is so the rc50 doesnt calculate a new bpm when you start and stop recording (because the guide is off)
3.the mpc sends CC80 to the rc50 when I start hitting the pads .This starts the playback this silent wav file. This is important if your want to use the "stop at end of phrase" feature of the loop pedal and have it stop in a way that fits with the music on the mpc.
4.you can use another cc80 to stop the loop pedal playing back if you want. I use the loop pedal in this video though.

Loops will stay in time for a lot longer than you see in the video. Ive have loops running for a full 4 or 5 minutes in other tracks with no problem.

Ive posted a thread for the video in off topic viewtopic.php?f=8&t=142083 , but thought it relevant here too (hope thats ok)
