Someone asked me privately so here it is for everyone else who might need to know..
Yes I did have to remove the 47th pin.
I would like to add that , someone gave out bad info before.
The way that worked for me was , as has been said , have the drive the right side up
( This means it is sitting on your hand JUST LIKE IT WOULD SIT IN THE LAPTOP! ),
turn it around and count from the left , the second pin up top.
When I followed the other directions , I took out the wrong pin and had to order another drive.
For the price it wasnt a big deal and I actually got it from a different seller the second time and that's when I got the nicer one which also arrived quicker.
The previous drive had a bigger bezel that would have required chiseling and this one just looks stock , to me.
The other question I've been asked is can it read well and burn.
It reads fine. I havent burned anything because I was under the impression that you need to convert a sequence to a wav in order to burn and I am using the akai os right now.
If this is not true , someone show me what to do please.
Anyway , many thanks go out to whoever figured this out.

the other thread even has pictures of which pin to remove... i don't see how anyone could get it wrong...

one thing i'll add is that in the old thread it says you only need to do the mod if you have a hard drive installed as well... in my case, that was not true... i don't have a hard drive installed and without the mod the MPC was reading the dvd-rom as a hard drive instead of cd drive... once the pin was removed everything worked fine though.

I just installed a CD Drive in my 2500 from the spot that L.A. just posted. Works great and it took me less than 15 minutes to get rid of pin 47, install it and get stuff loaded with it. They were selling them for 16.73 shipping included. And now I finally got hit with my first "insufficient memory" message. I was "stalling off" on doing any upgrades, but now it is RAM and CF/Hard Drive time!!

just a quick question...
i just get a teac drive and it works great without the pin mode.... anyway, are there any screws (i don't find any...) to hold the drive inside the mpc? it fits well but i don't beleive that the connector of the drive is so strong that it will hold it inside even i will be transporting my device....???

Yes thats fine... The mpc 2500 is NOT able to read AKAI formated disks (libraries) - means that you will be NOT able to use cd's from AKAI S series in your mpc.

You're welcome. Now if you actually use it, then post something about it. I added it and have rarely used it. It was so cheap that I couldn't resist adding it!

Bought the 224E B12.

It has a blue eject button and the bezel is smaller the others so you could see the blue led i was planning to mod the 5000 with through the spacing. And offcourse the blue eject button was a nice detail.

Unfortunately it doesn't work with the 5000 either way.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help in this thread with getting a cheap CD drive.

I can also confirm that this one works with the PIN mod:

Teac DW-224SL 8x DVD-ROM -- 24x10x24 CDRW Slot Load. DW-224SL

What I like about this one is that it is a slot loading model and of course the price is right!

compuvest has some on ebay right now for less than $18 with free shipping.

HI,

Inspired about this thread i ordered teac cd-drive for my mpc 2500. (Teac CD-224E Model ver.-A26) I took the pin 47 out just like the picture shown about two pages ago. My problem is that the cd drive and the hard drive still not work at the same time even i took the pin out. Mpc doesnt show any files on my hard drive when the cd drive is installed, but when i pull it out the hard drive works. Is there something important that i missed? I think the cd drive is still a master even i took the pin out. Is there something i can do to make it work? I have jj os 3.08.

Thanks!
