is the screen broken?

i was changing the backlight for my 3000 today and everything went great. when i dusted off the lcd screen (i barely touched it) some lines showed up but quickly disappeared. when i turn it on the screen look like this



so... i guess my screen is ruined now?

Check your cable going to the pcb inverter board (backlight connecter) and check the connection from the screen to the main board . It may have loosened up

i opened it all up again and checked all the cables coming from the screen, i pushed them down but it's still the same

is it possible to install a lcd from a S3000/S2800/S32​00 or S3200xl/CD3000 sampler? there is a guy selling on ebay

Take the backlight out of the sampler and then switch the mpc on, it will obviously be dim but see if all the text is back
as sometimes if the backlight is cut too wide or fitted incorrectly it gets underneath the strip that sends data from the ribbon cable to the actual lcd board hence causing the missing pixels.

I know its not the clearest explanation but those that have dissassembled the lcd screen should know what im referring to.


Give it s a shot and see how it goes.

thanks for the tip but i tried that and when i turned it on it was even worse than before, it was lines all over the screen.. i restarted the mp and now there was only 2 lines on the screen (??) really wierd.. i ofcourse wanted the backlight in it so i redid everything again. there is different amount of lines everytime i open the lcd up and put it together so it's obviously something wrong here.

it looks like i have to get a new lcd screen, or does somebody have a clue what might be wrong?

i have another question. does a lcd from a S3000/S2800/S32​00 or S3200xl/CD3000 sampler fit the mpc3000 straight away or do i have to switch some cables or anything? would really appreciate if someone could help me with this!

im pretty sure theres nothing wrong with the screen. i think you just need to tighten the clips that hold the lcd to the pcb. when replacing the backlight did you undo the clips? it should of been a slide in replacement but even then it might of been too thick which caused the problem.

you can test this by pressing the lcd to the pcb, it should fix the problem somewhat. if so then just redo the clips that go all the way around and you should be fine. hth.

yes! i did this procedure about 5 times to make sure they were tight enough. i have done this before on this particular mpc and it worked fine.

if you can see it, it's small scratches on that gold area. could that have something to do with it?

this is one misconception about backlight replacements, THEY ARE SLIDE IN UNITS!! they have always been all the way down to the mpc60mk1.

if tightening the clips dont fix it, try starting all over. take it apart again, remove the backlight to make sure it isnt blocking anything, straighten out the the clips as much as possible, MAKE SURE YOU ALINE THE SCREEN RIGHT ( THIS IS IMPORTANT), and assemble WITHOUT THE BACKLIGHT. if this fixes it, you should be able to install the backlight by sliding it in from the side. if it doesnt fit cut it so that it does. this is all i got for you. hth

i finally made it guys!! it's not 100% perfect just like 2 lines, but when i got it this good i dont want to open it up anymore, can definitely live with it. what i did was i opened it up all again, making sure all the clips were straight. cleaned both the strips on the card and on the lcd screen with electronic spray on q tips.

Basically you need ro re-align the lcd.
If you open it up again.... lol....

when i got it this good i don't think im gonna open it up again tho.. maybe in the future
