Elmacaco, got a question

be careful when buying software esp. reason stuff and make sure that the license has really been transferred to you... otherwise upgrades are impossible.

personally i hate reason, but i know others that sware by it. seems to be ok if you bypass the mixer. I predict that if you were to move over to reason and forgoe your hardware capabilities, your music will loose a lot of it's character... haveing said that - you may be able to intergrate both wares to good effect.

good price? no idea

yeah, if it isn't just a copy it's a good price. Make sure you get the license.

ok, so if there is no license than should I pass?

If it is a warez version/illegal copy then don't even think of purchasing it.

Suggest you peruse the information at the Propellerhead site regarding licensing.

it means Reason got no personality.

Listening to your mixes it strikes me that you have a certain sound - that comes from your chosen weapons and your working methods.

For me it's more of a philosophical standpoint:

Here's a thing - reason is so instantaneous that after 5mins you'd be "happy" with what you've created. That is bad to me... means there is no creativity, and that the device I created on dictated to me what and how I should create.

Reason is a very capable programme. I have issues concerning it's sound quality - I just don't like it. I am sure that there are some people out there who use reason and get a great sound. Maybe it's worth persuing it as a creative outlet, but I have it and I don't even use it on my laptop when travelling.

Me, I prefer the musicallity of a few, well-chosen boxes, a long night and no work in the morning...

btw. concerning a good price... if there is no license there is no need to pay...

I doubt he'll dump his gear for reason, but messing with reason might introduce him to new concepts he hasn't come across yet.

I think it will make you appreciate your hardware more.

true, true, playing with reason got me back into making music after a three year hiatus and eventually lead me to the mpc after a couple of months (after i fuced up and got a sp-808 first....woops).

maybe it's like this...

for 60 quid for a license it's worth it just to see and make up your own mind. experience is first hand knowledge.

i dunno man i use reason all the time and im a big fan. a bunch of beats on my site were made with reason, and i would bet u would have a problem distinguishing them from my mpc beats. With the effects on reason, the reverb and the scream distoriton, u can make shi* mad grimy.

I cant believe the beastie boys did their entire Lp with reason. And playing with it for a minute , I thought it was cool. We shall see.

I think most of the new beastie boys tracks sound bad, like the drumsounds that they used were kinda thin.

That new album was such a let down...
