how do you stop the pads being automatically in tune with th

i have a question but dont know all the jargon because i dont know shit about electronics and music theory.
how can you stop the pads being automatically in line with the metronome when you hit them? on the mpc 2000xl

i cant have like slightly offbeat drums, its automatically within a step or something.

It's called 'quantisation'...good word to know.

On the main screen there is a field that say, i believe, "timing". It is at 1/16 by default. Select it, rotate the wheel to the left until it says OFF.
