Whats the best computer software to use with my mpc 500

I use the Edison plug-in on FL Studio after slicing samples/markers up in Sony SoundForge, makes the process faster.

Edison is also good itself for slicing up samples and setting it's own markers but results may vary.

I havent used it yet because my computer doesnt make sound but it sounds dope.

Yeah, i've been useing recycle to slice with. I just installed reason 5 on my laptop and I just grabbed mpc maid aswell, I was just wondering if there was anything else or better I should look into.

Esquillo, what up with a MacBook guy like me?

I use Audacity to chop the sample into sections i wanna chop, then send them over to Propeller head Recycle to chop them and export them as Wav and load em up into the MPC - all this is on MAC just for the benefit of homeboy above.

loll i have cubase but i prefer MAGIX MUSIC MAKER hahahaa... im not kidding .. its just so eassyyyy for just recording!:P

i use mpcmaid for quick creation of program , mostly for instrument. Also audacity to slice my sample .
But most of the time i did the maximum with the 500

How can anyone tell you whats 'the best' when there is no such thing as the best unless you think like a kid.

I've been using Propellerhead's ReCycle 2.1 to chop stuff up. The auto-chop function alone makes it a godsend for ALL 500 users. It really helps take the edge off - manually working with a large number of chops without any kind of visuals is enough to make your head spin sometimes. The $199.00 price tag is a little much, however, if you ask me. I think they know we'll pay for it because it has the potential to be so helpful.

BeatButcherMPC is used for chopping - also has patched phrase editing.

Audacity could probably be used just as well for chopping/editing/recording. It's pretty good for basic sound recording & audio editing application.

GoldWave v5.58 is another free program similar to Audacity. (They just released the v5.60 Beta as well)

MPC Maid is great for making programs on the fly. I just prefer to make them with the machine--call me old-school . I don't feel that making programs is really a big problem on the 500. Either way, it's still a really cool program and every user should at least have it installed on their computer.

I've also heard/read a bunch of good stuff about Sony's Sound Forge Pro 10 - I haven't tried it out yet though. Currently it's $399.95 from Musician's Friend. It's a little out of my league--if you know what I mean.

I use Logic Pro! After production school, my taste for Pro Tools has been killed in the face.
While I don't have a 500 (yet) I do tons of different things with it, shit, I can't find a DAW
that works with how I work better. Plus, all the included plugs & software instruments are
top-notch. Seriously, the compressor in LP9 is the glue.

Can't beat LP9 for my chopping needs either, and it has a sick timestretch.

Sad, but it's VERY true. One's brain can only handle so much "Pro Tools is the *snort* industry standard for a reason. A studio without pro-tools is a studio run by fools" and blah blah f*ckin blah. I think "DAH PEOPLE" are getting the best end of the deal these days. So many options to do any ONE thing. Plus, DAWs like 'Reaper' makes most out there seem like a huge rip-off. Since so many options generate interest, which generates research (usually/hopefully!), which generates smarter individuals & consumers, competition has damn near bridged the gap between Pro Tools and "all the others". Also, the DAW's "sound" is all about your chain going IN. Don't be confused though, different program algorithims POSSIBLY CAN bias the sound, but no one would be able to hear... unless your computer was ****!

Bottom line - download tons of demos, go to music stores and snatch demo CDs, ask buddies who have some that came in their new gear. Get ruthless! It's all about your flow, there WILL be a product (or chain of) that will get you where you feel you need to be.
