Purchasing a 2000 from a pawn shop,testing protocol.

i saw the same topic from a few pages back about the 2000xl: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=142017; and i wanted to know if testing the 2000,do the same rules apply? or should it be done diff.? its a online pawn shop,so idk if i can haggle but they want $287 for a 2000 not including shipping (they do have a return policy as well) suggestions anyone please?

just make sure there are NO lines or missing pixels on the screen or else a replacement will cost more then what you payed for the machine... and that is if you are lucky enough to find a replacement.

and remember, one single line (that they tell you does not get in the way) is just the beginning. once you get that first one the rest are coming soon.

I buy 2000xl's off gregslist and sell them on online auctions to make a few bucks... so when I meet up with people to see their mpc, i always do the same little test routine:

First, load up sounds. make sure it does that to begin with...

go into SAMPLE mode.... wind up the sample time to make sure they have the amount of RAM installed that they said they did

test all the pads with FULL LEVEL on and off...

make sure the outs are kicking out signal. u can stick the headphones in the L/R

If it's got the full 8 outs, i'd test each one obviously.

The FADER... i get sticky faders a lot... but the last one i copped was shot. The fader didn't locate correctly on screen in EDIT MODE... so i had the guy knock off some more cash.

Obviously screen, i won't even pick one up if the screen isn't flawless.

I also like to go into the Mixer and see if the FX card is installed. That's something that could be overlooked by someone that's just simply not knowledgeable about mp's. And hell yea, i've found one before.

Other than that you can just punch the numeric pad, hit buttons to make sure they work. Laying down a sequence is good just to make sure your REC STOP PLAY OVERDUB stuff is all in good working order.

Zip drives... i always pop the disk out just to make sure it ejects. You could have it reading everything fine and get home to find out the damn disk is stuck in the drive or something stupid.

Mostly I always assume I'm dealing with people who are trying to pull a fast one on me, so i'm way more paranoid, but oh well. That's my little check list, anyhow.

... and personally i would hold out for a 2000xl rather than the 2000. I've snagged them locally (Detroit for me) for as low as $275 with the floppy drive... $350 with the mcd reader. Just have to hit the online classifieds hard. The trick is to just call immediately after the item is posted and offer straight cash same day... then you'll usually get people talkin
