RS-16X - How do you mount USB floppy on Intel Mac?

I have a USB floppy drive, and it reads the disk because I get a popup saying the disk is not compatible (MPC disk). What I am wondering is how do mount or use the floppy drive so RS-16X can see it?

When I try to load a PGM, I don't know where to click to load the floppy drive.

Any help appreciated.

Edit: It will mount if I insert a blank disk, but I get an error when using an MPC 60 disk.

The drive works. I see it mount when I use a blank disk. The moment I put in an MPC 60 disk it reads ... try to read more ... continues to attempt to read ... then error!

Are you guys able to read the disks properly?

I could be mistaken, and someone please correct me if so, but weren't the 2000's the first ones that could be accessed via computer?

So I don't think you can just swap a disk from mpc to computer using an mpc 60.

Older mpcs are not fat16 compatible like the 2000 onwards.

Again, correct me if wrong, but what you are explaining seems to make sense if this is the case.

Do you have the option to format the disk? You could try fat16 and then try loading it in the mpc, but I think that might fail too on a 60.

It is possible that you floppy drive does not support ds/dd over USB.


most usb floppy drives do not support 720k double density diskettes.
check the specs on the manufacturer's website.

If you're doing anything like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqJ7jMtN5W8 it states at the start of the video that usb floppy drives don't work, you need a real floppy drive connected to your computer.

please disregard Jimmie, on a mac with rs16 the process is much more simple.

once you get the right drive, the floppy will mount on the desktop.

Fair enough, if you are absolutely certain that usb floppy drives work with this type of software on the Mac.
I was only offering a youtube vid that deals with something to do with this, not a definitive answer.
