Our LCDs don't use anisotropic adhesives like the original, so they won't have the same failure modes. We also use white LED backlighting, so no more "pink" screens after a few years.

It is expensive. Please, to those of you that keep muddying the waters on the thread, DON'T F*****G pretend for a second that you have any idea what ACTUALLY goes into this!! You have no clue!! If you actually understood you might make comments that had relevance here and you clearly do not.

I log on here every few days or maybe once a week to see if there is any progress and instead of seeing new posts from Envision, I am forced to wade through pages of trash hoping to see an update. YOUR OPINIONS DO NOT MATTER!!! NO ONE GIVES A F**K!!!! BELIEVE IT!!! When you return comment while thinking "they're not talking about me, they must be talking about that other guy..." NO!! WE"RE TALKING ABOUT YOU!!! All the rest of us want is REAL info on the NEW screens from Envision Inc. (NOT REFURBS OR USED ONES!!). Release date, progress on firmware updates, availability at what vendor (which we have already been made aware), and pricing info (which has been announced and is said to be under contract terms with a price cap, if you'd actually read the posts). NOTHING MORE!!!

If you (again, you know who you are...) want to circle jerk with each other DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! For the love of Christ!! When his screen hits the market, I encourage you ... buy one. Install it. Note that it will likely WORK!!! I say "likely" with more than a cautious optimism having seen the vids that show obvious new hardware and firmware on the screen being used and not just some ass trying to pawn off an old screen as a new one. AFTER (meaning AFTER you buy, receive, install, use, and have some relevant information to add to this thread) you have some experience with it... THEN let us know what you think. As I mentioned, I WILL be buying one. I could care less what you think about the fact that I am buying one. If you feel offended by this please write about it in your personal journal, tell a priest, talk to your guidance counselor, but please... do not do it on here. When I have mine in service, I WILL BE posting on what my thoughts are and I can only imagine that fond gratitude will be expressed. For less than $200... even if it doesn't work (and I'm sure it will) I'll STILL be thanking them for the cheap date chance to revive a cool machine.

2. IF/WHEN Envision (and the rest of us on here for the reason I mentioned above) realize that you fools AREN'T going to shut up or go elsewhere, he chooses (wisely) to begin a new thread and abandon this one. With any hope he will give it an obscure title. He will also PM the rest of us so that we are aware of where to look to follow up on the progress. Those of us that understand the service that he has CHOSEN to provide for us will be REALLY GRATEFUL for all the hard work he has put forth in order to bring this product to market in an effort to make all of our studio lives a little easier and bring some of our trusty old friends back to life from the $2400 paperweight pile. By quietly abandoning things here, you rats can occupy the Captainless ship he would be leaving behind and type yourselves in little circles of oblivion for months on end while no one else watches or cares. Yeah, before you guys think I'm trying to push something - NOPE. You want it - some of you NEED it. And I'm supplying it. It's a new design. It costs me money. Only I stand the chance to gain or lose. If I lose, well, so what? I tried. But we're winning. We're succeeding. $159 is the agreed upon price. It allows us international distribution that we would not normally have.

I happened to hold the key - which is the OEM manufacturer for the display. The design is very difficult to implement. We are still struggling with some glitching from the way the MPC sends data to the LCD: Just when we were THIS CLOSE to going to production, we stopped to fix some weird glitching. In other words, it wasn't perfect. We intend to have that worked out this week. You cannot fault us for rushing it to market. We will not produce garbage.

I think I've been generous in my description of the progress. I have been as open as possible about the costs. The displays represent a tremendous effort that neither I nor most of my colleagues have encountered. We are doing something that nobody else has attempted. That is what makes us first with a true replacement, aftermarket LCD display.

To the MPC community, we are unproven. My website is not a storefront (for the most part). I am an electronics design engineer and I hire software and mechanical engineers per project. Our business comes by word of mouth. We are always busy. I consult on home and car audio amplifiers, switching power supplies, lighting controllers (for signs) and just about everything in between. I do the occasional special project. This year's "special project" is the MPC Display.

mosdman: I don't know who you are - but it doesn't matter. If you want to know more about the actual design of the display - JUST ASK. You are assuming everything and you're wrong. On. Every. Point.

Michael at MPCStuff has been phenomenal to work with. He is the reason these displays are getting the "airplay". He has tried several times to get these made - and failed. I would have to be really bored if I was going to fake this thing. I don't have time to be a fake. I don't have any interest in wasting anyone else's time, either. The last video you see is of a beta unit. It is off centered a bit - but that's a physical alignment issue...and it's been fixed.

Next video (I'll get one soon) will show the actual display OUTSIDE the MPC. You can look at it all you want in glorious HD. The secret is in the firmware which is encrypted (not just locked) into the controller.

I wish they were cheaper, too. But they're not. It's all about amortizing the costs across the units. I and MPCStuff are taking a big risk with the first production units. If they don't sell, we're both out money.

Contrary to popular belief, price isn't set by how much money I want to make - it's set by what will sell. They're as rare as hen's teeth, but won't sell to the majority if priced too high. Too low and we won't be able to make more of them later because we'll have lost our asses.

Does that make sense?

You have to consider there is much more than "a screen". There is overhead from manufacturing, packaging, legal (contracts), warranty repairs/defect tracking, software development. And then I get paid for hardware development. I get paid LAST because I owe everyone else FIRST. That's how I run my business - and that's why we're growing and not wondering where the money goes because I wanted to buy a new car.

Edit: Never mind - that's the guy that posted above me. Silly me. Plus, I don't say things like "If there is a God" because I believe there is one. I also don't type in all caps. I also use an apostrophe instead of the quotation marks for contractions (easy mistake, but I proofread for the most part).

BTW, I noticed audioteknik signed up on July 25th of this year. Well, it couldn't have been me because I was camping in Scandia, Pennsylvania with zero internet or cell coverage. A simple IP trace will tell you that - just contact a mod.

envision best of luck supporting unsupported hardware. i know that game from perspective of both customer and "business" and neither is a walk in the park. please move on to creating a monitor out mod for the 1000/2500. i built a breakout screen my one of my 1000s, that was cool. basically just hacked in a db25 connector cable in between the screen and the mpc, so now it's on a long line so i can put it near my computer monitor. actual on-monitor data would be way cooler

The cost is in the translator PCB as well as the R&D time.
