Boom bap snare rolls

I don't know how to call this technique, but it is used a lot in boom bap, especially by Buckwild.

I'm not sure how to achieve this. I was thinking of the note repeat button in the MPC, but the volume of the snare stays the same, whereas in this song it is fading in. Anyone knows how to do this? Thanks!

you can achieve these rolls using the note repeat function. the velocity (aka the "fade-in") is done in the step edit page.

first record it with sound repeat, than go into step edit and change there velocity, it's not that hard

wait why cant you just adjust the velocity as you play it with note repeat? i do this all the time.

I don't use the MP....but you can stagnate (layer) the snare.

How do you do this? If you leave your finger on the pad using note repeat, it will play at the same level

which mpc are you using?! every mpc i've used i can adjust the velocity as i hold the pad down - pressure sensitive.

so yea, how do it do it? i hold note repeat, hit the pad, and hold it with different amounts of pressure.

Ok, I just tried it I didn't think it would work, because when you use note repeat you have to hold the pad.It works, but I find that using step edit is more effective.

not sure about other OS's but on JJXL you can adjust velocity while in record mode by applying more/less pressure to the pad

Well if this workflow suits you, ok. To each its own. But if you practise a lil bit more you would get a feeling for the pressure you'll have to add and you would become quicker than goin thru all the edits in step edit mode.

-yeah note repeat with full level turned off..

-note repeat with 16 levels volumes (velocity) turned on

-temporarily slowing the tempo down to very low... and 16 levels volumes to program the sound pattern at a slower tempo.. re-increase the tempo to hear the result.

-sampling that roll thing from that song and gluing it on the front of your song?

Again, changes only take effect when samples are re-triggered and note repeat is a re-trigger event.

this is important to remember - wont work with long loop samples.
step edit or real time.
and yea i think step edit for this effect would take 100 times as long to do than just doing it live. but everybody does it their own way so keep at it.
