Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I might have read this here on the thread somewhere being talked about, but I am curious about something I heard about connecting a CRT monitor or something to the MPC? I know I read it somewhere...

This would be a really wierd Idea, but maybe it'd be cool. Like having some wierd old off white vanilla vintage CRT to match your MPC. hah!

it would take a lot of space though :D

I went to MPC stuff and they say 4-6 weeks for delivery. I know the price is $160 or something like that but can someone from the Envision company give us some sort of feedback on how long before we can expect to be able to buy this new screen. At least tell us what the hold up is? I have not read all of the posts in this thread and it appears that there are no other lcd screens in the world. I simply want to know if this is going to happen really soon or not...I have not been using my mpc because of my screen and the anticipation of a new screen is killing me and im sure many other people on this thread. Hope to get back to creating soon....my balls hurt, Envision can you let them go please? lol...seriously though I am glad someone took the initiative to even try making new screens..thumbs up to Envision for that!

ive never heard of a crt display on an mpc, but you know the 3000 has a vga output option so you can display onto anything using vga - here is a clip of atom tm live that shows it in the background http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bSfWf7VmOo

the other thing i have seen is envision put up some demos of the lcd talking to a regular computer monitor.
(cannot find this video anymore)

i would like to ask envision, is it at all possible that you would consider offering a 'output only' option, bypassing the need for a screen (as shown in your videos talking to a computer display)? i dont know how youve got it all working, but if it would be cheaper to offer a plug and a 'use your own monitor' option, thatd be cool.

I suggested the idea to envision a while back.. and I believe they looked into that but wound up deciding against it because I think it wasn't working properly and the cost would wind up being too much or something... so I believe they canned the idea of a VGA out for the 2000/xl.

the reason he opted against the VGA adapter at this time was that with the firmware he had written (at least as of a couple months ago) the refresh rate out to the VGA display was too slow for his liking and he didn't want to have that be a stumbling block in terms of performance. The refresh on the LCD display as well as that on the VGA can be seen on the youtube videos he posted and while I do think it would be a nice feature, it isn't a deal breaker for me. It isn't as though it gives you some stunning GUI or anything, it is just a mirror image of the same image off the LCD screen. It has a place in terms of functionality but with the various other software sample editors out there it really isn't a big deal. Edit them on a PC and do your sample layouts in the MPC Editor software and dump them in if you don't like doing edits on the LCD.

End of the day... we all just want the damn LCD replacements to be available. I've seen the vids and the new screens look dope so thanks to Envision for all his hard work. With any luck we'll see these available before the end of the year through mpcstuff.com and if now we'll all have no choice but to continue to wait until they become available. I don't like it any more than the rest of you but like it or not that is really the only option we all have at this point. Patience is a virtue.

IMHO... an external display port would help out tremendously rather than dking around with small LCD screens that could possibly go bad again. Granted, the MPC2K/XL will not have the capabilities to use a screen and mouse like a MV-8800 or DAW, but it is a giant step to correcting a majorly flawed part.

yea my point was not to have vga as a bonus, but an alternative to having to buy the actual screen.

i know it aint pretty and i know it doesnt add anything feature wise to editing, but it would eliminate the need to manufacture/purchase screens, and it might be attractive to some people.

Yep. I totally agree with ya.
I just added my 2 cents since alot of people on here were seeming to be irrate that Envisionelec hasn't replied back with results about his screen mod. I'm sure he wants a quality product and is going through many tests to ensure that.

It reminds me of when Roland MV-8X00 users wanted a program like MPCEditor to edit .mvo sample kits. Chicken Systems (CS) stepped up and developed a MV Kit Creator program but the MV users were getting pissed becasue CS was taking their time beta testing it. In the end, CS finally came out with a mediocre program but slowly dropped support for it becasue people were complaining too much about. I can somewhat understand CS' side being that they went out of their way to make a program for a older legacy Roland units and couldn't get no love from the MV users. So basically CS said Fk it and dropped real support for the MV program.

I don't want to see this happen with the manufacture and testing for 2K/XL parts/modifications.

Sorry for the wait, ya'll. I need a "forum" guy to keep up with these threads, but until I do - I'll just have to check in every so often.

We went with a second prototype (Beta) as there were some fitment issues with the Alpha. The new prototypes have arrived and will be in mpcstuff's hands by Nov 9th. Shortly thereafter, I will have the green light to begin full production.

We've had setbacks: primarily getting the things to fit properly. I would rather delay the project than have immediate issues that damage our brands. Reliability is top priority. When we build hundreds of them, I expect no more than 0.5% failures at the factory and are striving for zero defects by the time they're in your hands. Each will be tested, serialized and documented so that if it is returned, we have full record of ownership. We're also handling spare parts and factory service. So the support will be there.

We may be small and sometimes slow, but we're organized and try to be as helpful as possible.

It's not only not pretty - it's also very slow. Since our efforts were already at 100% on the LCD, the VGA idea was pushed aside permanently since we lacked both the manpower and the expertise to build a good one.

But the majority of the cost is in the interface that we're already building for the LCD. At best, you'd save maybe $30 overall and have to cut a hole in your MPC.

This is a persistent topic, but the new LCDs are going to last much longer than the originals. The technology is much more advanced and runs cooler. It also uses LED backlights rather than the CCFL which go dim over time. If there are any complaints, poor reliability will not be one of them.

The LCD screens will be available in 6-8 weeks. More information available at mpcstuff.com and preorders will be opened very shortly!
