Help Me Choose My Next MPC!

So my 1000 pads are shot, as well as the record in ports.... I figure its time for an upgrade. Portability is not an issue. Quality is my number 1st concern, features is 2nd.

I'm between the classic 2000xl or the 2500 (or possibly a new 1000?)

The MPC is the only piece of equipment i use to produce music.

I'm scared to buy any new AKAI product because in my opinion, the quality sucks!

Any recommendations?

*I'm well aware of the difference between these machines on paper (i.e. specs). I want to know what other users PERSONALLY think about these machines (feel, sound, reliability, os workflow, ect.). Any input is appreciated!

I might sell it with the 3k I'm customizing, and get a moog lil phatty. I'm having a lot of fun with the 60 hooked to a 303 and its taking me into different direction. Figure if I miss the 4k like features then I'll get a jj1k for cheap somewhere and have the 60 trigger it.

I know you like flipping gear but that could be a flip too far! Wouldn't you miss the filters and the other bonus 4k features?

You can get the 2500 if u want its the same os and you have to learn new things.
Or you can get the 4000 if you want the other feutures that the 2500 doesnt have.(and learn new things)

2500 is the best of the last generation of MPCs, hardly any issues or bugs and plus you have the option to go JJ.

4000 is supreme above all MPCs...thats until the 5000 gets a sturdy upgrade

As for me, I recommend the MPC500 because I got one.

none of the current mpc line up is as quality as the classic original roger linn mpcs...but outta the modern mpc line up 2500 offers best set of features for the price....and most importantly it's backed up by JJOS...being able to use JJOS, put the 2500 and 1000 in a league of their own...1000's are cool if you can deal with no tilt screen, less outputs and smaller pads but for couple huns more you get 2500....4000 is really nice machine, but once you tried JJos it's really hard to go back to stock akai os, I couldnt stand chopping samples on the 4000 having used 2500 with JJ prior...5000's would be a hit if JJ got it on.

I wouldnt consider xl at all for few reasons

1. screens burn out and are bank to replace
2. it's a slow ass dinosour
3. gotta deal with card readers

Of course you have to add that the classic original Roger Linn signature MPCs cost $3000-$4000...and the Akai MPC 4000 maxed out was also $4000 brand new.

You wont be disappointed with the 2KXL if you decide to go that route. Don't sleep on the 3k either!
