almost 10 years Later.. How is your machine holding up

tbh i cant point out the year i got mine, i dont even know for how long i've had it.. dont know where the papers are either these days.

i do remember the long and hard wait for it to get from Japan to Sweden though.. i think it took around a year before i got it... the waiting was horrible.

but yeah, its holding up well, i've noticed the jogwheel is getting a bit glitchy though.. it works fine for the most part but then sometimes it likes to pop back or (maybe its forward) a tick, causing me to sometimes delete the wrong track or sequence etc.. solution to that s to continue to scroll until i get away from the "bad spot" that is a bit loose, but its no biggie..

screen is fine, pads and buttons are fine and so on.. though i kinda fear the day it breaks.. thinking it might take ages to get it back once i send it off for repair

longest time i've been without it before was when i went to live in Australia for half a year or so, and then all production had to be done with cubase and a virus synth.. so i had to make use of old mpc recordngs since i couldnt make new ones, lol.

Shittt...I bought mine used from the original owner I believe, I drove to LA and was pulled over by the cops at gunpoint and was almost shot to death because my boy didnt want to cooperate with the police when they were asking him to lay down on the ground...then after that ordeal...*Got off with a Warning*...walked up into this big ass Studio where they had SSL Consoles and whatnot the 4000 was in the studio with the old SSL 4000E or some shit like that, it was the SSL that the Jackson 5 had did some albums on or some shit they said, I cant remember...then they jacked it into the SSL I tested it out, everything worked...drove back home for an hour back to Temecula, CA...Been working ever since...Although the display goes blank sometimes but I think thats from taxing the machine...My joint works like a beauty...and I have the Plus model...Nice buy for a RACK...$1000...Got my money's worth...Sold my 5k for $1400 to buy that joint...

Mine is doing well. I had the cable for the screen stop working, so I had that replaced. This weekend I am taking it back to my parents house where I have some extra tact switches laying around.....time to replace a few of those. They are slowly one by one going out. Other than that, she's rockin'. Compared to the plastic MPC's....these are built to last it seems. My former 1000 doesn't hold a candle to my 4k, the tact switches were going out on that thing within 6 months.

I took an office job as a manager for a few months, saved enough to buy my 4k brand new at 1400 pounds in like, 2005 i think. Then i quit the job and haven't worked in an office since or would ever again. working 9 to 5 is for chumps.

I purchased mines 8 years ago new,fully loaded & still going strong with no major issues. Had a 2000 before I got this & have never looked back.I've swicthed up all my other pieces of gear ,but this is the only piece I never sold & will never sell. Thinking about purchasing another, since there so cheap on ebay.

It never fails me ... never ... I haven´t had a crash in years .. its been with me since 2002, I´ve flown with it through countries, sometimes in just a normal suitcase, and its functions & feels like new,

some maintenance: I´ve had to replace the lcd (cuz I flew with it in normal luggage) I´ve replaced one of the transport keys, I´ve upgraded the face plate to blue and my pads are red, I´ve also put in a more silent fan ...

there´s still nothing on the market I´d rather work with .. and I´ve really started to love the akai sound or the 4000 sound to be more precise, I even love the filters.. if I take it to low end studios it simply smashes ableton and those digi boxes in sound quality, the feel & the timing, the workflow, the sound, the Z8 engine with those perfect envelopes (love their fast and accurate timing) ...man is it ever holding up!

doubt I will ever sell it as I solely believe that will never break down .. similar to the 3k& 60 which still function 100% to this day ..

I will add a MPCstudio to adapt into the DAW environment.. but that´s about it, there´s no mpc that can do what the 4k can (the mod matrix has become essential in slightly modulating life into static samples, .. My only complaint no direct recording of loop-points but that can be bypassed via sysex...

btw-anyone work with the 4k and the Roland S-760? I have one with the digital card and looking forward to to seeing how they work together since the 4k can read the 700 series format. The Roland is pretty cool it can use a monitor and a special mouse.
