Actually, I don`t think I need all the features in the 4000 or 5000. I`m doing most of the work in Pro Tools. And I believe the 2kxl is better than 1000 and 500. It`s said to have the swing of the 3000, which I really like.
Also when people like Kanye, Scott Storch and Cool & Dre use it, I guess it`s good enough for me.
I see. MPC-2000XL can be found cheaper than 1000, 4000, or 5000 anyway. (Surprisingly, common used price for MPC-500 (yes, the smallest one) is almost same as 2000XL.)
I think you'll miss the dedicated function buttons and jog wheel located on right, when you switch to XL from 3000.
I still don't understand why Akai flipped the layout on 2000. When I'm editing samples on XL, my arms are awkwardly crossed, because I dial wheel on my right hand, hit pads on my left hand... I'm already used to it though.
Probably I won't like MPC-1000 neither, just because Akai even omitted ten keys! (I like to have dedicated keys! Don't bash me, each person has different preferences! Probably I don't mind smaller pads, but I want at least ten keys!)
