im trying to download the latest update for jjos-xl. but when i try to download it, all i get is a bunch of jibbersh.

If downloading on a Mac you may have to change the file extension to .bin instead of .osx or whatever it may be...
3.11 would only install for me after i did this... The instructions for it are somewhere on JJ's website..
