Just Blaze consulted with Akai regarding the MPC Ren

Sooo many You Tube videos of catz using the MPC 2500/1000s...and even the 5000s. Then you come to this forum and leave thinking these are plastic MPCs not worth bearing the MPC name.

meh what ever.. dude makes the gear work right? if it sounds good it sounds good.. that video is great too... one thing I have to give props to that dude for is that even if you aren't watching the finger work (ie: switching tabs or what ever) it still sounds great.. notice how that isn't the case with many live vids.

Araab is garbage.. Boon Dock and Disko Dave are beasts on the MPC..they actually make good music. Araab is more like circus sideshow entertainment.

I can agree that Boondock is nice.

I think that Araab is cool, because he's brought "turntablism" mentality to MPC users. That alone is a great thing. With that said, he is using MPC as a finger drumming tool, and I don't think he really cares that much about sequencing functions and such. I think he's chose MPC-2500 because it has mute group, and MPC-1000's pads are too small for finger drumming.

I think the fact that Akai Pro had contacted Just Blaze shows that they are really trying to improve the product before the release. Just Blaze knows hardware, he is an engineer type (by judging from his interviews), and he can be very technical. They should've done that for MPC-5000, but I guess they've learned from their mistake.

Just is an excellent choice for a consultant. He actually uses and experiments with most of its features, and like you said, he's very technical.

Araab though..l don't think anybody cares about his opinion.

Araab is also a producer so of course he cares about sequencing. MPCs are also live performance tools so consulting with guys like him can only make the product better.

I give anyone respect for trying to innovate and bring a fresh angle to the MPC arts...don't hate.

I do get the feeling from the video clip that he's not caring about the MPC Ren, he performed with little to no energy.

Maybe latency took the stride out of his step?

So the other 3 gentleman cared more by bobbing and jumping around? Maybe he was trying to find a happy medium.

Is Araab a turntablist? He's got skills for sure - especially for the fast single stroke rolls (as a drummer would call them). I think the reason that I dont like much araab stuff is because it reminds me of what i don't like about turntablism i.e. speed/aggression at the expense of every other musical quality. If anything , we should learn from the mistakes of that scene. Music is not about watching how fast someones fingers can go. Don't get me wrong though- i love Turntablism (started battling in '98!) and improving my technique on the mpc too. I think its because i love it, i also know what i dont like.
