The 2500/1000 was the last *decent* machine they made (this is subjective). What they should have done is improved on the 2500/1000 so that it can be used as a hardware device, but hooked up to a computer using the USB can also be used as a hybrid which would actually bridge the gap between hardware and software. Being able to manipulate and control the the MPC on screen within the DAW or VST, but still keeping it a standalone machine if one wishes.

They could then have created their Akai DAW to work alongside the 2500/1000. As well as the DAW they could have released a VST that could be used within a DAW of your choice, such as Logic, Pro Tools etc. Or just kept their DAW and allowed for VSTs to be used within it (which I believe they have already done).

The Access Virus is about the only hardware I've used that does this well. Whilst it's not a drum machine/sampler, they pretty much have it locked in terms controlling and manipulating the hardware on screen.

This would have been a real hybrid and something worth discussing.

Feel free to elaborate and add in your own bits an pieces.

Would be nice, but I would guess the 1000/2500 doesn't have the necessary internals to communicate on a level higher than simple data transfer.

I agree, but I mean to base their ideas on. They could have redeveloped the 2500/1000 and rebranded it as a hybrid and made the changes they needed too.

u cant down the product on the basis that u cant make beats on the train cos most of time u aint gonna be on the train.

and willing to be most live events u go to will feature a laptop with serato or some ****, the extra weight of carrying a laptop to run the mpc ren is neglible in comparisson to carrying around a heavy ass mpc60 or 3000 or a crate of records so miss me with that ****.

You're making pretty generalized and broad statements about why a person that WANTS to occasionally use an mpc in a standalone scenario should NOT want that... :? Everyone uses their MPC differently. You are chasing your tail.

I do not ride trains. I do not take my 3000 and a crate of records on the road with me...don't be goofy. I do however, take my 1000 and a few cf cards loaded with samples on trips. I do not want to have to take a laptop also...I take an ipad with me to web surfin'/porn oglin'... what is so hard to get about that?

Just because you don't get it why people are "so hung up on it" doesn't mean its an invalid reason to not buy something.

an akai insider but dont worry bout that its all about mpc - ren better get with it but ur sad devotion to the standalone unit is mostly groundless, be happy they are bringing the mpc hardware drum machine concept into the 21st century.

yes it would have been cool to have an mpc3500 that has a built in battery and connects as a usb controller but this is an expensive proposition.

Are you really replying to yourself here? :?:

technical faults abound re replying to myself

but my assertion that mostly ur using ur mpc in ur studio be it bedroom or tother wise so the standalone element is not a big deal, all ull need is ur laptop not a big issue.

needless to say the pc integration is useful for many poeople hence the success of maschine so akai have followed suite.

im sure akai have heard all ur arguments for why they should make a standalone unit but when they looked at the numbers (how much it cost to make a hardware unit) and how many units sold.

versus the cost of producing a controller and the amount of unit potentially sold to the upcomming producer /live performer market and the maschine crowd the decided it was more viable to make a controller as much of production is now done with computers.

akai,
do not forget to listen to me,
you will do better.
for example:
change 2 joysticks *
* first change (joystick R ) for:
keys up, down, left and right
* second change (joystick L ) for:
- zoom in, out
- x-y parameters
- and much more.....
- thanks for all your atention.

thats actually wuite clever, like a cctv controller, one joystick, twist for zoom in and other axis obvious things, press in for ok func....
anyone who has use a cctv controller will get it...
interesting concept, although you were probably joking round.

i agree with most sed, but the original 1k & 2,5k are usb 1 speeds, so that would have alot to do with them being redundant with applying them to intergrate with software.

a new 2.5k hybrid would be the bizness!!!

I just don't feel that a joystick would be a good idea on an mpc.

well I used to use a dual impact computer joystick to control parameters in fl studio a few years back... and now fl studio has wiimote support.

If Ren software can be triggered by legacy MPC's I will buy it even if I have to pay a premium or purchase one of the new MPC dongles to obtain it.

I just feel the new MPC's will be pointless in my setup..just give me the software c'mon Akai.

P.S. the MPC 5000 was the last MPC I cared about.

Never heard of AK.Sys. Will look into it now. Just found a review on Sound on Sound. Why wasn't this successful btw?

Also seen a few posts on here from users that actually enjoy AK.Sys.

thinking back when i owned my mpc4k, i used AK.Sys only a handful of times. my reasoning was because I didnt really use the computer for sounds, no vst instruments or anything like that for me, just tracking out. I used my keyboards and sampled everything from vinyl.

So my guess is maybe it was a tad too early for people? Not sure if people where all about managing thier samples on thier computer like they are now. dunno, maybe im wrong.
