Heads up for my MPC peeps

Guy I got parts from for my internal has some kits and externals for sale on ebay at the mo that work with the 60/3000.

Really recommend him - Acard + wires alone from some places might cost you more than his prices, and Acard are not easy to find - seriously, these will sell fast, get in there....

Internal (wires are £29 extra if you read details - you might need to redrill holes in the tray to match location of your old floppy drive screw holes)

External (less hassle)

Yes, your 60 must have the SCSI board installed to use any SCSI devices, not just these ones.

I'm also recommending the same Ebay seller as Seed. That's where my CF reader came from and service/support was good.

cool... i was gonna buy a scsi enclosure for 4 quantum empire scsi drives but.. i might pick this up instead. cheaper and less headache in the long run i think

btw, are these compatible with eps16 samplers? the architecture is almost identical to an asr-10 so i'm guessing they might be.

the seller is a ASR rack owner, so ask him - if going for internal the EPS/ASR KB version will need some longer cables.

doubt he has a large stock of Acards, so get these while you can!!!

If MPC 60/3000 make sure you understand the limitations of the 1x30meg partition if you plan on using card on your computer.

don't scsi hd's also work with the 30mb limitation? the internal hd in my 60 was seen as 780mb by the OS and was split into 26 equal partitions (a-z). if this works the same way, then the limitation is no problem at all :) thx for the lookout tho

BTW which CF cards are 100% compatible with these (make and model# if u can) thanks

The MPC60/3000 can use a total capacity of 768mb on the disk, split into 30ish mb partitions.
If your disk is larger than that you wont be able to use the extra space. If your disk is smaller, then obviously you are limited to the capacity of the disk.
The disk will be MPC format and you wont be able to read it on a computer.
This applies to everything - hard disks. zip disks, MO drives,cd roms, CF cards and any other forms of media you can think of.

The 30mb partition Seed mentioned only applies if you want to make a disk that can be read on your computer.
You use MPC Editor and it makes a single 30mb partition on your disk that can be read by both the MPC and a PC. No matter what size your media is you will only get 1 30mb partition.

make note. most people want to get a CF drive so they can put samples on the MPC via computer, or to back up a load of stuff to HD.

even if you are just a vinyl sample head you got to think about what a lack of hotswap actually means - if stack a CF card with samples you can only use them on that disk, you can't take samples off multiple disks and load them as the MPC needs turning off when you swap. if you ram 780megs full of samples onto a CF you can't back all that up, so if you end up loosing those samples somehow they are gone forever. so in short living with the 30megs space is prob best option, and just think more carefully about how you use that space using the computer to swap files for each new project.

yes mantas that was kind of my question...except i think they do work with os3.11 for 780meg storage in partitions in the mpc...but the question is, can the 30meg partition thing work on os3.11 with a card reader or do you need valixi? can i use mpc editor, load samples into a 30 meg partition on my card (partition created on the mpc first?) from my mac / pc, then load onto the 3000 from the 30 meg partition?

And i understand there is a way in valixi to make use of the seperate partitions on your pc / mac with software, (hybrid partitions) but just to confirm - there is NO way to recognise any further than the first partition on mac / pc otherwise? ie in os3.11 (i have both mac/pc)...ie to switch between partitions to back up (i think you just said no, acidmitch, but it's a blow :( )

thanks in advance for the guidance of this novice!

the drives in the link will work with 3.11 - I have the internal version currently working.

personally, if you have the studio space I'd recommend the external, less hassle if you are not used to the inside of your machine.

with 3.11 you can view the 1 partition formated by MPC Editor. but only 1 partition, so yes it works - to repeat IF you just use card in MPC you can format enough 30meg partitions to take up 780ish meg of space

with 3.5 all partitions can be reconised by computer (they are shown as seperate drives on your desktop if you have a mac, not sure where you look if PC), have no idea if all partitions can be seen by MPC editor. I'd personally be happy if it just lets me back up files.

not all cards are suitable, this is mentioned in the auction - if you have 3.5os a LOT more brands of cards can be used. In short 3.5os is a magic wand for MPC3000 owners and I REALLY wish i had it...

haha yes me too seed... only just getting started on the mpc biz but it sounds like it solves alot (valixi). many thanks for the info! I am happy enough with one 32mg partition to transfer stuff from the pc / mac (only gonna be downloaded drums to start with anyway all samples coming from 8000 records!) so that is good news! As long as mpc editor works - they got a disclaimer about transferring files on their site now, i am yet to try it - I bought one of the external cf drives from your man on ebay (noticed them as soon as he listed them as i been trawling...but wasn't sure til you recommended him so thanks again!..) having an mpc is starting to feel a bit like having a vintage car :D
