Should I buy a used mpc500 if A/C adapter and compact flash

Got a chance to buy one in a local pawnshop for $175, but am worried about the above missing items. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

If they can't find the missing items, I'd act unhappy about this and pull out $125 cash and tell 'em to take it or leave it. You may have to remind them that it's missing those items, but I bet they take it...

If you buy it, head to radioshack with it and get a new ac cord for cheap...if the CF card that's missing is the one with stock sounds, you're not missing much. If you really want them, they can be found on the internet.

Besides it runs on batteries. Whatever, you can get an AC from one of your old mixers, I know I have tried a few and they work, just check the spec on the AC and on the 500. I'm using the stock AC of the MPC500 for my Roland MS-1, so hows that for interracial relationships.

Ok thanks all. Where's a good place to get the stock sounds? And are they loaded via usb?

Make your own buddy. The stock sounds I have never tried, and don't care for them still.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll make some, I just figured the stock sounds were recorded in better surroundings than what might be available to me (ie, a studio). If I decide I'm going more "Industrial", then recording quality would be less important. That said, I'm planning on sampling the Choir&Strings Patch from my Casio ctk6000 to be played from the external section of my nord stage keyboard via midi.

Yah there's a whole heck of a lot you can do with the MPC 500. It may not be the best to get that sample quality, but that always depended on the artists conception of what they want they're songs to sound like. Anyways, you can get samples straight from your computer into the compact flash card via USB so no need to worry about sampling.

$175 or 125 w/e you choose to get it for, either one is a really really good price for the mpc 500. its such a sick machine. portable, sounds great and with OS 1.31 its rock solid.

Ok one last question. will I be able to play with the unit at all without a cf card? or will I need to pick one up immediately? I heard it comes with some internal memory.

True, but you can get a CF card just about anywhere...It doesn't have to be the "Akai" branded card. I suggest getting one from Radioshack when you're getting the AC adapter.

well it turns out that they were asking 275 for the unit and I miss read the price. The lowest offered was 200.

200$ is not a bad price for the unit, but I think you need to focus on other instruments first. If you do not know anything of what an MPC 500 can do, then what business do you have in trying to purchase one? My suggestion is to try to find a second-hand Akai XR20 to focus on first. That's what I started out with, and not I'm getting much better with my production.
