almost 10 years Later.. How is your machine holding up

I bought mine in 2006 from the original owner in German.

Still holding tight, apart from a dead pad, but I think after a sensor replacement it will be fine.

In 2003,I traded my 2000xl for a 4000 and $700 in cash. I just replaced the screen on the 2000xl. But, I couldn't resist the 4000. I put it off prior to that because I was a little intimidated by the screen layout. My MPC 4000 is still working perfectly fine. 512 meg of ram and 8 analogue outputs installed. WHY IS THE ADAT CARD SO EXPENSIVE? I'm looking to get a second 4000 for a spare unit. (Just In Case)

Mine was a store return (used) that I got for around $2k back in early '04. I've since upgraded the hd from 60 gigs to 160 gigs & installed the adat card.

It's still going strong, & looks as good as new like the day I bought it.

Roland and Yamaha's gear lasts the longest, if you ask me - got machines of theirs from the 1970s still going without a hitch.

Send it to Bruce Forat, get it chromed out with the wood sides! BTWs, he's really generous with responding to your questions if you have a problem. Also, if it's repair you can do yourself, Michael at MPC-Stuff is awesome.

Five years ago I bought my first MPC 4k off Ebay. It arrived broken. I went through a process of trying to fix it, read everything I could but no fix. It was a huge ordeal to get my money back off the guy. The process lasted for 3 months. I never even got one second of sound from it.

But the 4k had always been in my mind so I thought I would go for it again. Bought one off Ebay about six months ago and the exact same thing happened. Never got a second of sound from the thing. I tried everything such as searching the web again and seeing the same posts I read five years before + trying all the usual suggestions. I went further this time and travelled 80 miles to see if a tech guy with some MPC experience could fix it. No luck there. This seller was a nice chap and gave me my money back. But I did my absolute best to get it working. I felt bad for him

Still determined I found one advertised in Sound On Sound a couple of months ago. Ebay was off the list for me for 4ks. I decided no matter where it was in the UK I was going to drive there my self. Luckily it was only a 300 mile round trip. When I got to the guys house it wasnt plugged in. I of course asked if he could plug it in. He did, and set about loading some sounds because I really didnt want any surprised this time. However, he couldn't get any sound out of it I said I would take it but if anything is wrong I will be coming back with it. He agreed. He purchased it in 2003.

I get it home, plug it in, stick some sounds on a USB stick and within seconds I was playing some stuff off the pads. However, me being the unlucky btard I noticed one of the pads didnt trigger But everything else was working and in general its in good condition. Although at the back the midi ports are scratched to hell. I dont know what the guy was doing. I mean, really scratched as if someone had sandpapered the area. All the buttons work great except the record and overdub buttons are a bit loose. I guess they will need to be replaced soonish? Paid £550 Uk which I was pretty happy about.

Just added an analog 8 out expander

I do worry about the mobos on this machine. Understand able considering my first two attempts to buy one.

lol - the back of my MPC is scratched near the fan cos I literally had to use a HACKSAW to get the old noisy fan out, as some of the screws had bust their threads.
