yo j.london... we've got a few pieces of gear in common... i too also rock the mpc2500, micron, sp-303, etc... out of curiosity, how are you liking the micron? do you find yourself using it a lot or not? i feel like it's been a bit since i've used mine as a synth in a track, but since it's the only keyboard i ended up keeping i use it as a MIDI keyboard mostly these days...

I like the sound better in micron compared to ms2000. But with ms it's lot easier to tweak sounds.. I think it's pretty good sounding keyboard for the price.
I've been lookin for Ion, but havent found one with reasonable price.
I gotta say I use ms2000 (running thorugh sp303) more than micron.
btw. this is the best micron video I've found : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8Kiw4aoex4

Yeah, I like it alot. And finally I have a setup that I'm comfortable with. And I can just concentrate on making music.

Then you can plan on using the ION the same way.
The Micron sounds better than the ION because you tend to built the patches with the built effects.

The ION just needs something to route it through so your patches will sound more like what you are hearing in your head.
Don't half to keep the effects but just making the patches dry in the ION tends to sound lacking.

I use to run my ION through a MPX500 or KP3 to give it a bigger sound.

This is the latest incarnation of my setup, and the first to include an MPC. After using it for a few days, I can honestly say that this setup is perfect for me and works exactly the way I always envisioned. The MPC was the missing link.

From the MPC, I send MIDI to the Venom, and to the EM-1 and thru to the vocoder. I use the 2 synth tracks on the EM-1 for basslines and such, and route the audio back to the MPC. The MPC audio outs go to the audio in of the Venom, and the vocoder audio goes to the mic input of the Venom. The Venom gives me up to 4 synth tracks if I set up split programs. The built in audio interface of the Venom allows me to listen to everything via the Venom's headphone jack - I'm loving this!

Everything is mounted on my homemade (95% complete) synth table which puts everything at the perfect height for me to stand and play.
