everyone does it there own way,but heres mine:

1st cf card is all my drums...pure drums/procussion
2nd cf card all samples/instruments/loops
3rd cf card all finished songs/programs/ sequences only

i then back up all of them once a month on an external hard drive,my computer

BACK IT UP!!!! CANT STRESS TO YOU HOW BAD IT FEELS TO LOSE 10 YEARS OF WORK!!!

in the 3rd cf i always create a new folder for each song and in cf 2 i keep everything categorized very well as to find what i need easily.

when you save a song make a new folder for that song>SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY in this foder. if you dont do that you wont have all the files in one place to reload that song again.

make some folders like this

beats ------> all beats go in seperate folders in here

samples ------> all samples of songs, ect go in here

drums ---------> put em all in here, organize them by kits you bought, or claps, snares, kicks, ect.

now whenever you save a new beat, make a new folder inside your beats folder for example "beat 1" now do a 'save entire memory' into this folder. then just keep overwriting it when you work on your beat or make changes ect.

if you make a radical change that you dont know if youll go with in the end just make a new folder called "beat 1 v2" or something similar, and now save your entire memory into that.

and if next time you turn on yoru mpc, you dont like beat 1 v2 anymore, you can still re-load up your beat 1 folder.

get as big of cf card as you can find, and like dave said, back up your work!

I erase everything after a track is finalized. Fuhk recycling sounds. Try these punk.

MPC500 options:
Formatting the CF Card:
1. MODE+SAVE[PAD 3]
2. Scroll the wheel all the way to the right.
3. Press 12 LEVELS/DO IT, you're done.

Deleting everything off the Internal memory:
1. MODE+SAVE[PAD 3]
2. Scroll the wheel 6 steps to the right, it should say
"SAVE:To internal/All sq&song|pg&smpl"
3. Press 12 LEVELS/DO IT twice.
4. Something will pop up saying "Replace memory/Press REC bttn", press the REC/Record button.
5. When it's done erasing the flash at 100% TURN THE MACHINE OFF ASAP!, then you're done.

Connecting the CF card reader on your MPC500 to the PC:
1. MODE+SAVE[PAD 3]
2. Scroll the wheel 2 steps to the right until it says [USB :] on the screen.
3. If you have your USB cord connected to the MPC and PC it will open up a new drive displayed in My Computer. Done.

Purging/deleting samples you didn't enable on any pads off your CF card:
1. MODE+PROGRAM[PAD 6]
2. Scroll the wheel all the way to the right.
3. It will say "Purge unused/Press DO IT"
4. Press 12 LEVELS/DO IT. You're done.
