adding extra buttons to your MPC

if you want to duplicate buttons on your MPC, it's very easy.

you can get as lofi as you want, too - 2 wires coming out of a hole in your frame that you tap together, hotwire style

or you could get a nice sleek inaba pressure transducing rubber button and use silicone glue to adhere it to the frame.

regardless, you need to run 2 wires from the new tact switch to the old one.

that's literally all there is to it.
i did this with my mode button on my MPC1000 - in jjos you can hold mode and scroll through your tracks quickly.

i'll dredge up a link about those inaba sensors.

Nym - you seem like the man to ask about this, while your on the subject of cloning the buttons. do you think its possible (perhaps with power supply from a separate source) to clone the screen?...obviously a very very long shot

i was also thinking it would be cool to make your 1k have a tilt screen probably be pretty hard to do though.

another thing that would be awesome is to have the box 4 arrow buttons like on the 2500 and the 500 on the 1k.

there have been a couple attempts of modifying mpc1000s to have tilt screens in the past on this forum... i think TheGrublet [or whatever his name was] did the first one i can think of... they never really looked all that great though, as no one ever bothered to build a proper frame for the screen once they hacked open their mpc.

i always get you and the grublet confused. i think both of you changed your name aroudn the same time, maybe you didnt ever change your name though, it would be filthy if someone could build an actual tilt screen for it, i would pay for this for sure.

i think if i got something similar to the 2500 tilt screen, it could look pretty cool. would need a professional to do it though.

nah... grublet and i don't have much in common... that dude had a SICK room full of gear though... so much cool shit in a single room. i remember he once tried lyrically battling the entire forum though... and that was a pretty funny thread.

that tilted mpc1000 screen you posted was one of the other ones i was thinking of... jimbo hasn't been on these boards in ages though... i wonder what happened to that dude.

im gonna give this its own thread, maybe someone knows someone who can do metal/electrical work like this.

I've given this some thought. First, I started thinking about how an external button array could be set up using point-to-point wiring connections to some sort of cable connector, which in turn would be cable connected to the external button array (think S6000). I then thought that voltage drop could kill that idea, among other things.

Then I remembered that some people were having data wheel problems and were having trouble sourcing out the component. I was wondering if perhaps a daughter board could be installed that could fit a different but similar rotary switch? Or even if the right operation board itself could be modded to retrofit a different but similar rotary switch, with point-to-point wiring making up the connections?

^ totally doable, but a ton of work...
the rotary encoder issue remains one of the few unresolved MPC1000 hardware troubles...but given the utter brilliance demonstrated by people on this board, i am sure a solution will emerge.
