mode button broke - "main knob" work around??

hey guys i know that is an ancient post, but what does he mean by the main knob? my mode button just broke. pretty certain its the tact switch so i must replace it or resolder.

however im in a jam here since i have shows coming up THIS Friday (tomorrow!) and Saturday. the option of looking for replacement parts, ordering, is unlikey with my time constraint. im pretty sure ill go to forat, but is there an alternate button to access modes? alot is on hold and you guys can relate how that is when you have projects/live shows coming up... any help greatly appreciated

are you running jjosxl? if so, you can hook up a midi controller to your mpc and use the button to midi feature to control your mode button with the external controller.

or you could take a button which is less used and wire it to the mode button tact switch.

im using JJOS1 4.99 so i doubt i can control using midi

i was thinking i can wire it to the numeric button. have the right pcb board in pieces right now, but not sure what wire to use, which to solder etc...

found on another thread that maybe contact cleaner might help, but i dont have any of that lying around. any household product work for contact cleaner lol?

yeah, deoxit works wonders on those faulty, cheap mpcs. i wouldn´t use any other contact cleaner spray. because deoxit is more than just an ordinary contact cleaner.

cool thanks for the advice. probably pick up deoxit today and if that doesnt work then im back to Forat and shelve out more money. my curse on getting an mpc off craigslist. my horrid timing on this crap happening a day before a show....

seriously, since ive gotten a 1000, in the forums ive caught onto more of the CONs of this series - crappy buttons, q-sliders wont read, pads not velocity sensitve enough or just not respondng, broken data knob/encoder, right pcb replacement. even reading about all these problems i still find the 1000 to be sooo dope. coming from 2kXL it was tricky at first, but i learned all the upgrades were just so logical. in my case i think the previous owner must have let it just collect dust for years which exacerbates the problem(s). anyway thanks again for the help.

no no no, all due respect to Forat, but you don't need to send your mpc to him for a broken tact switch.

short term solution if you can't find deoxit: desolder one of the buttons you don't use often in its place.

long term solution - order some higher quality tact switches (links are around) and spend a session soldering them in.

When my mode on my 2500 went I initially replaced it with the +/- button and that worked fine. But 1000 don't seem to have as many low use tacts as the 2500.

Maybe Pad Bank D, if you are only using the lower Banks - Or you can live a little while without Next Seq.

yo man thanks for the tips! but ive got deadlines/shows! i need this thing working NOW. i know you know your stuff, nym. i was actually reading this thread before i saw your reply and literally out the door to my nearest radioshack for some deoxIT.

didnt even think to check out jjos forums for tact switch problems. ive been up all night looking for some quality tact switches and i thought if get those then id have to desolder and i dont know how to do that. this whole day of organizing my set and collating my sequences, programs together would be replaced by maybe learning how to solder and desolder. ive only soldered 10 things in my life and have yet to do desoldering. im playing in front of 200+ peeps this coming saturday so i think i should take it to pro and get it back quick due to my time constraints... or am i just trippin?! im off to radioshack. update comin soon.


UPDATE:
just got back from radio shack with deoxit D and G series. directions go as first the D then the G. applied it and let it sit for 10 mins and im actually getting the Mode button to work now. this feels like temporary fix. first thing sunday im gonna get some tact switches work on soldering skills. thanks so much guys for the tip/info. im literally indebted to this site, these forums and the awesome users that come to help us out on a daily basis.
