How can I silence or mute the steps in sequence on MPC 2500

Hello everybody,

I need some help with my new MPC 2500 SE.

How the hell can I mute or silence the single steps in one sequence?

I understand that this is something that has to be done in the step edit modus, but I just can't figure it out where exactly and how.
I couldn't find anything in my manual about it neither.

Hope some of you can help me. Thank you in advance.

Honestly I don't. I really don't. But rarely every so often, I feel for the "production technique challenged". Just gotta say something ya know.
