dnb jungle amen brother winstons

Im hoping that theere are a few junglists on here that can help me out. Ive been chopping up amen brother and making some seqs. Ive got my drums rolling pretty nice but im looking for some tips. what other breaks are commonly used for jungle? ive been listening to jungle for years and years but have only now started to produce some myself..
drop me any related tips. please.

Funk bands....James Brown etc

The sound of D&B today mostly comprises of self built breaks/loops

create your own loops with an existing break. then chop that up.

yeah avoid all those overused breaks...program your own...more control that way

erm... no it doesnt. check out the wall of whatever record store near you... pick 10 new dnb records at random.

1 will have the Amen or firefight or Tramen

5 will have a common break




Even in DNB it helps to KNOW YOUR BREAKS. i must say though i hate the amen break and i feel that DNB is as watered down as hiphop in terms of too many morons thinking they are "producers" just because they make music from a checklist.... but here are some resources for you.....

Hmmm, I dont wanna get into a war over D&B breaks etc (I'll win anyway )

When I say self built, I mean in terms of loops of loops of loops being spliced up rearranged then put together as one.

Yea its good to know breaks etc but dont get caught up in the hype of using over used loops. Andy C....Optical....Shy FX....Swift....Fresh aint all using the same old loops now are they

i slice the amen into 16 peices then jizz that shit in the step sequencer. i do a lot of processing to the original loop, to fatten and dirty it up. use other snares to change it up. get some ride cymbals goin. dont be afraid to use the step seqeuncer and change random note values to different sound in memory. my sytle is dark and dirty drum and bass. intricate quantising and note repeats. aka squarepusher style.
