MPC 2000 White screen/LED problem.

What's up everyone, need a little help off one of you MPC experts....

Ok so, whenever I boot my MPC2000 up it lights up like normal, but the screen doesn't display the OS information it just freezes on a white screen and all the LED's say on. I've tried to check for lose wiring on the floppy, power supply and what not but can't seem to figure out the problem! Hopefully it's not one of the big boards and it's easily fixed but....

Has anyone had this problem before? A solution would be nice, if not maybe point me in the right direction!

Have you used this MPC before or is this a new purchase?

When you first turn on the MPC, do you see "MPC2000 Boot Rom V1.00" on the screen?

If so, then you may have an issue with your floppy drive or floppy disk.

If you do not see this, then it could be a number of issues. You can try reseating the boot EPROM on the board. Check your voltages off your power supply to make sure it is supplying +5V, -12 and +12V.

Yeah me and two friends have had this for 5 years or so, probably got a solid years use out of it then it packed in and we bought our own MPC's.

It doesn't display the boot version thing at the beginning, literally stays blank and the LED's stay lit up....Although the occasional time it 'll display it, get to the main screen but make a strange noise in my headphones and then the screen will go blank again.

The boot EPROM... Easy to remove? does it need re-soldering? I know you can pick them up for about £30-£40 on Ebay. Could it be the bottom board? I don't know all the technical circuitry stuff about the machine, so I'd be lost if I was to try replacing various components...

The Boot EPROM is clearly labeled on the Main PCB. If you've looked at the Main PCB you can't miss it. The chip is socketed so you are able to remove it. Be careful not to bend or break any pins. If the pins look black or dirty, clean them with a pencil eraser or isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you put it back in the same direction you took it out.

Check the voltages on the power supply with a multimeter. Unplug the MPC from the wall power and reseat every cable on the Main PCB including power cables.

Check the cables for the display. It's clear from your video that the backlight is working, though the data cable for the display may be loose or disconnected.

Remove RAM, floppy drive and any other addons and try turning on the machine to see if one of those components are faulty and causing issues.

Beyond this, if you do not have the experience with "technical circuitry stuff" you may be better off buying a cheap working MPC 2000 with a bad screen and taking parts from it. No sense in paying for a boot EPROM which may not solve your issue if there is something else wrong with the MPC.

It sound like ram problem.Does this happen if you remove all ram sticks?

i had the same problem...

removed the cover, tried to pull out the ram - no success...
disconnected the "top" board from the motherboard and turn the mpc on. it boots up fine. connect the board back to the mainboard. test. worked.

reassambled the mpc and no problems since then.

I'm having the same problem. Right now I'm removing all the components as well. What do you mean with the top board, WASKMUSIC?

that doesn't matter what board.. there are ribbons and connectors to connect the different parts. Disconnect and reconnect them to make sure they are firmly seated. Sometimes over time they lose contact.

I'm currently having the exact same problem on my 2K Classic.
How did you fix it?

Check Ram chips are correctly fitted. Check power supply - check all voltages and replace any suspect regulators and capacitors, then check all cable connections and all socketed ic's. If the machine is full of crap (dust, insects, drugs) then clean it out - vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachment is good for this. Check disk drive (swap it out if you have another) Clean ic pins with a fibre glass pen, clean cable connections and sockets with a small amount of Deoxit (observe anti-static precautions). Swap OS rom and memory for known good ones. Look for any signs of physical damage like cracked or broken pcb's or components, trapped cables, components shorting out etc. If the problem persists after that then you are looking at a deeper hardware or component failure that needs expert diagnosis.

I’m having the same issue. OP said he replaced a PCB for $60 and that fixed it. No idea what PCB though.

There are multiple topics on this but nobody takes the time to post his/her fix..

I’ve tried the above but I will try to boot without the top board linked I guess
