ok waaaaittt, in the Ren you just drag and drop the samples to the pads to have copies on different pads?

But on the maschine you have to assign the sound to the pad first, press duplicate, hold a pad, press a pad, press duplicate, etc...

How in God's name is that quicker? It sounds the same, same feature just done different, and in my opinion Maschine made it over-complicated.

correct me if I'm wrong.

When you drag-n-drop the same sample on an MPC Ren (like all other MPCs) you can adjust the params for each pad separately. But the actual sample is the same. So if you edit this sample in Sample Edit Mode, it will effect that sample anywhere you use it. To avoid this you have to make copies/duplicate a sample.

Maschine treats samples differently. When you load the same sample onto multiple pads, they are treated independently. Editing one sample doesn't impact the same sample on another pad.

Both the Ren and Maschine has the same duplicating function. The difference is the way Maschine treats their samples once assigned to a pad.

Now this isn't meant for you Jah it is for the developer to expand the choices of the users as this was asked for and many users will definitely enjoy this addition to their workflow. Dan if you are reading this remember this is what we discussed.

There is another Ren work-around for what some badly need, It's called 'Assign'.

1. Load a Sample.wav'
2. Enter Sample Edit Mode; *Do Note Edit Start/end points
3. Press F5 [Assign]
4. Strike a Pad A01; set Extract Region On
5. Press F5 [Do It]
6. Press F5 [Assign]; strike Pad A02; Press F5 [Do It]
7. Press F5 [Assign]; strike Pad A03; Press F5 [Do It]
8. Press F5 [Assign]; strike Pad A04; Press F5 [Do It]
9. Press F5 [Assign]; strike Pad A05; Press F5 [Do It]

Results - The sample has been duplicated (Sample-1.wave, Sample-2.wav, Sample-3.wav, Sample-4.wa, Sample-5.wav) and assigned to Pads A01 - A05.


Or

1. Load 'Sample.wav'
2. Enter Sample Edit Mode
3. Press F6 [Edit]; select copy; Press F5 [Do It]
4. Press F6 [Edit]; Press F5 [Do It]
5. Press F6 [Edit]; Press F5 [Do It]
6. Press F6 [Edit]; Press F5 [Do It]
7. Press [PAD ASSIGN] button
8. Strike Pad A01; turn data wheel 1 click clockwise
9. Strike Pad A02; turn data wheel 1 click clockwise
10. Strike Pad A03; turn data wheel 1 click clockwise
11. Strike Pad A04; turn data wheel 1 click clockwise
12. Strike Pad A05; turn data wheel 1 click clockwise

Results - The sample has been duplicated (Sample-1.wave, Sample-2.wav, Sample-3.wav, Sample-4.wa, Sample-5.wav) and assigned to Pads A01 - A05.


Using both these methods, it takes about 15-30 seconds to duplicate a sample and assign to 16 pads.

This may not help some sleep at night. But if you put a tool in front of me...I can find ways to make what I need happen.

Sorry bro...

But when the same thing gets repeated over...over...over again...and someone in the know tells you "its been submitted", what's left? For Jahrome to be 'condescending' and tell you every work around I can think of until Akai acts. Trust me....you will never hear me tell anyone to RTFM although I could easily do that. But its not helpful.

I am here to help....but you have to have thick skin around these parts.

Dang! The lack of simple duplication has made some of you MPC users more frustrated and angier than those folks at the Maschine User's Forum, LOL!

Just messing with you, this is great! So far I am happy with Ren, and it will only get better with time--ya know?

This is crazy. i understand the want to have certain features of other gear but all i keep reading is: why can't the REN do xyz, maschine can do it. People the ren is NOT maschine. if you want the ren to do what maschine does then don't buy the ren, keep maschine slap AKAI sticker on top of NI's logo and slap MPC Ren over the word maschine and there you have it. a REN that can do everything maschine can do.

we have to also think about this... how good was maschine's software when it was still v1.0? They are in their 8th revision and they are just now getting time stretch. still no full midi and quite a few other features. just like all who left the MPC to go to maschine and had to get use to that work flow... you have to now just get used to the REN/studio's workflow. I can almost guarantee, once you do, you would be like, maschine who???

the ren is a different machine NOT maschine

Just picked mine up today, looking forward to contributing.

In the mean time, I'm trying to sample from my laptop directly into the Ren. I have my laptops output set to the Ren and I can hear my sample play through my headphones, but I can't get the sample record to record any audio?

Is this even possible?

Any tips?

I may be able to assist. I need to know exactly how you have everything connected physcially as well as your configurations in the software (Ren, iTunes, etc) plus your computer OS.

Also.....are you trying to sample directly into the software via the Ren's physical audio I/O or are you trying to route audio from a software app into the Ren's software?

OS 10.6.8.

All I have is my Ren connected to my laptop through the USB, and my headphones in the Ren jack.

I'm trying to record audio playing from my iTunes directly into the Ren in order to chop and assign to pads.
