MPC-5000 Compatible CD-Roms

Can anybody vouch for which third-party drives are compatible with the 5000 ?
There are thousands of drives on the 'bay, but which one is a 'cert ?

I looked at the Akai drive but didn't want to pay $200 for a slimline drive

I know I might have to modify it, but that's not a big issue.

I searched the whole net to get the same question answered, as third party drives are obviously running in the 2500. Just put it to the test and bought one for 20 bucks on ebay for my 5k.

TEAC DW-224E - VW8

Works fine except for the bezel which stands out 'round 3 millimetres.

Simile to the 2.5k ones you gotta remove pin 47.



Apparently it's the CDM 25 with a different colored bezel.

I confirm that the teac 224e does work read and right without any mods.. Installed yesterday!
