OK got a problem but I'm not sure how small or big it is. I brought a MPC1000 for a great price however, upon receiving it the CF Card Reader doesn't read anything at all, from the 2 supplied and my CF cards I used for my 2500. I can access the internal memory which is useless, can't mount the CF Card via USB either.

So what is wrong?, I'm trying to figure it out but I have some degree of knowledge of MPCs but I can't think of what?

Also the MPC1000 pads are they're meant to be poor compared t the 2500?, I changed the pad sensitivity and I have to still whack the pads unlike the 2500?. The seller while seems genuine i feel didn't know much about the MPCs because of these issues?.

Anyone help please?, is this a fix, solution?. Last thing I want to do is send it back but if the problem is too big then that be my last resort.

First off, Blue or Black 1000? I'm hoping you don't say blue as they have the worst MPC pads in history. Bear in mind you may have the upgraded pads, but they still suck, just far less suck than the botched re-design on the original Blue units.

Grab a corner pad, press down a bit and try to wiggle it side to side. Look to see if the other pads move ever so slightly. If they do, you have the newer upgraded pads/sensor array and a $40 set of Fat Pads will sort you.

If you notice that only the one pad wiggles slightly or barely moves, you have the awful original pad/sensors. That's about $180 to fix.

For the CF card reader, grab a screwdriver and open the casing. There's the 3 screws on the top of the casing's back panel and then the ones on the bottom. There's one on the front panel near the CF slot as well. It's pretty easy to open when you're looking right at the screws. Check the CF slot for bent pins or other damage. If there's no card in the unit it won't show up as a removable drive even when in perfect working order. So check the reader itself first, it's more likely that than an issue with the USB port.

There's threads here about fixing/replacing the CF reader but again you'll have to open it up to pursue any potential help you might find.

If the whole CF/Headphone board needs replacing it's $125, so yeah you may want to attempt a return.

Its the black version.

Regarding the pads, I'm moving them but its hard to discern if they're moving at all?.

Regarding the CF Card, thanks for the knowledge I'm going to email the seller and as him but I'm confused because he described as everything working but from the time he sent it to me receiving it how can something get damaged?.

Appreciate the help though.

$125 USD - http://www.mpcstuff.com/mpc-1000-memory ... one-b.html

I don't think it requires soldering, I think just pulling out some molex style jumpers and unscrewing the board from the risers, but I've never done that repair.

It's unlikely the pins in the reader would be damaged in transit, but you never know. Putting cards in backwards is the main way this happens. But obviously I don't know the particulars of the seller or the shipping.

If the serial # says MPC 1000 BK-N, you have the newer pads and sensor array. But I still recommend the Fat Pads at MPCStuff. They looked at the problem and made pads that make proper contact with the sensors. After installation my 1000 became as responsive as my XL, as good or slightly better than my 2500, and definitely better than my 4000.

Hi serials says MPC 1000 BK, does it need to be BK-N?

I wait for the seller to reply back the Fat Pads are nice but I have no idea how difficult it be to implement. But yeah the pads are utter shit compared to my 2500, I was shocked at how bad they were.

I need to know regarding the CF Card, if the seller maybe willingly to pay for the fix then yeah I might keep it since the price was good but those pads man. Damn.

I looked at mine and I know somewhere it has the extra "N". But yeah my serial on the underside doesn't say "N".

Whether it's this 1000 or another you may replace this one with you'll want the Fat Pads. They are so easy to install, just remove the screws (hopefully keeping them separate or even labeling them. Mike@MPCStuff was using an ice cube tray in one video, genius) Once you lift the top lid it's just a sheet of rubber, no adhesive, no tools necessary.

Check out this 2:30 long video. It should set your mind at ease about how easy opening an MPC is, as well as show how easy the pad install is.

Good luck however it goes man. :)

The link was to show you how easy the pad install is. The CF is what the seller needs to address.

Like I said you should open it up and see if the pins are physically bent. If you know you didn't put the card in backwards then it was likely sent out with broken pins. Of course there could be other reasons why it's not working.

That's cool if the audio shop will take a look, hopefully as a free consultation or for very cheap. But trust me man, opening up an MPC is no more difficult than turning 20 screws.

One other thing acronym, say you find it too troublesome to return (I don't know if it was eBay or if have any buyer's protection here), you could get an IDE Hard Drive for rather cheap. You do need the HDM-10 mounting bracket, which is around $30USD.
The drives are around $100USD simply because it's older standard and there are fewer of them in circulation than say the latest WD Caviar internal.

It would cost the same as a new CF board but you'd have 120GB to store samples and never need a CF card. Provided the USB port is properly functioning.

Well the guy is a friend so its free, and I know for a fact that i didn't insert the card incorrectly. I'm no newbie when it comes to the MPC in terms of using it but I just ca't understand why this has happened. My 2500 has a HDD installed so I probably go down that route instead of a CF Card however, it depends if the usb port/Cf Reader etc.

Then its the bloody pads which i guess need replacing sooner than later, need to know if its financially sensible to keep this or return it. From what I tested using the internal memory sounds if you play on the bottom part of the pads then i get a better response versus of hitting it straight on. Though this is just weird compared to the pads of the 2500, i don't think the buyer knew about this to be honest but its another pain in the ass.

I was hoping I could just make beats today and not stress out about this...sigh.

Thanks for your help man though.
