The benefit of having multiple MPCs

I've noticed a lot of people stating they have multiple MPCs. I was just curious as to how that becomes a factor in your music. Do you only use one machine at a time for a specific sound and sonic texture or do you use more than one for something entirely different?

Yeah, in a live setting, a couple MPCs would work. But in the studio, one is enough. Besides, a DAW is an MPC's **** friend! And I say that with spit flying out into your food and face.

I just like MPCs. I use the 4000 for music. The 2000, I like the pad response when playin live. The 60 is just for show really... a collectors item. And if I come across a clean 3000, I'll buy that for the same reason.

I used to use the rs7000 and 2000xl together, would arrange my songs live by muting tracks on each seq.
That enabled me to have instant control over 32 tracks at once... and contrast on the sampler sound front... 2kxl did puchier drums, and with groovier timing..
If it wasn't for space issues I'd be using my 2kxl with the mpc4k for the same effect.. sold the rs last year, timing was never tight enough for me taste, and the buttons where f8cked

more sample time, more polyphony, ability to have access to multiple kits at once, different sound, few reasons that come to mind

As Ill Green said, a daw and an mp are friendlier than a pedophile and a candy store. 2 mp's would make way more sense in a tape/dat environment, but since most of us aren't on some pre-felony Phil spectre shit, 1 should do.

Seriously though it's mostly a luxury, and outside of a live context or going super old school doesn't serve much use to me. I mainly use a 2500JOS or a 4000 for interfacing to the DAW. And then my 1000 and XL mostly get used away from the other stuff, coffee table and so on.

For me software or hardware it's the same, as long as it brings a cool workflow and hopefully distinct sound then I don't mind major overlap with my other apps or gear. Of course I also realize that picking any two random things in my setup would still be more than enough to make plenty of music.

With more than one MPC you can argue with yourself over which one is best. It's good preparation for the forum.

2500 on my desk. Centre of my set-up. The 1000 as back up or for playing outside.
