Please help. No sound when playing recorded MIDI sequence MP

Hey Everyone.
I've been trolling through the forums all day and can't seem to find a solution to my problem.

All I want to do is record a midi sequence of a microkorg generated bassline onto a track. I've got my MicroKorg XL in a MIDI handshake with my MPC1000. I can record midi events fine (they come up in step edit), however when i play the sequence there is no sound. Both audio outs of my MPC and the Microkorg are going into my Mixer. I can hear the korg when i play it, just not when i'm playing back the sequence in the MPC.

I'm quite sure i've set up the midi connection on the mpc correctly. Both the microkorg and MPC are set to channel 1. I've set the MPC as Master and set the microkorg's clock to "external". I have a feeling its a microkorg setting i'm missing out on.

Can anyone help?

well rest assured it can be done. here is me with mpc microkorg and a novation synth, all sequenced by the mpc while i muck about.

are you using another midi cable to send the midi back??
you need midi in and midi out cables, not just one as it runs in one direction only, so both midi cables need to be connected for in and out.

Yep, I've got the MIDI in of the MPC going to the MIDI out of the microkorg, and the MIDI out of the MPC going into the MIDI in of the microkorg. 2 cables

technically this should mean the mpc is accepting the midi out of the korg through the mpc's midi in port, and triggering the korg's sounds with it's sequencer via the mpc's midi out port, which is going into the midi in of the korg. The audio out's of the korg should then play the sequenced midi notes, right?

However there is no sound when i play the sequence in the mpc!

Would you be able to go over the EXACT settings you have your Microkorg set to for sending and receiving midi over the MPC?

Turn the "Edit Select" knob on the Microkorg to the "MIDI" position, then use "knob 1" to select the desired MIDI channel to communicate with other MIDI devices on. Both machines will have to be set to this MIDI channel, so remember which one you set the Microkorg to. Turn the MIDI control knob to EXT [to receive external MIDI data]...

i think that should do it...

I would think it is more the channle out setting of your mpc track that has to be set as well. make that track set to same midi channle as korg synth.
But I am using a microkorg, and you seem to have it right so far, in that you see notes recoded in the mpc sequencer, but of course no output. So that is why I had to say that about cables. sorry bout that.
To be honest there is hardly anything to set really....... just match midi channles, local set to ON, clock set to AUT or EXT > auto or external midi clock sync.
see, simple, and not much to it, so try that and then check that the track on mpc has the midi channle set right. Make sure you have correct A or B channle as well. Yes I spell channle the english way, not the american way. It will record to what ever track is selected anyways, so you might be fooling yourself that the midi channles are set to the same one, say in my case 3B. So that has to come from MIDI OUT B only.

I think i've set all that up correctly. The track on the MPC is set to MIDI (instead of drum) and the channel is 1A. The Mircokorg's MIDI CH is set to 01. I'm using the MPC's MIDI A Output.

Any other ideas?

everything sounds like it's configured properly... at this point i'm thinking it may just be the midi cable.

you didn't accidentally MUTE the midi track on the MPC, right?

I've tried three different cables and they none of them work. Nope, track isn't muted. I'm this close to shooting myself :S

The strange thing is, is that when i press the pads on the MPC to trigger the MicroKorg,, there is no sound, but there is definitely a MIDI signal because I can see the volume bars moving on the MicroKorg.

in the MIDI settings on the MAIN screen [of the MPC]... next to where you select the MIDI channel... did you change where it says "PC:" from OFF to a number? because if so, it might be sending the midi signal to a different patch then the one you have selected on the microkorg. try it with PC set to OFF.

what is GLOBAL POSITION set to in the MIDI settings on the microkorg??
