i guess apple with their change of connectors crossed their plans (ipad2/ipad3 and even the ipad4 has a different connector)

i see the app just as a teaser, like imaschine...

would you release your main product as a 6$ fully app
the shareholders would kill you

c mon people @ the end of the day the ipad is just for consuming...
i gave up the ipad for serious musicmaking i use it only for sampling music or synths...

so who is the first to put wood pannels on a impc?

I have a different appreciation for this app.

The iMPC's graphical interface is nice and bright, easy to read and understand. Looks are everything; this is where Beatmaker 2 doesn't do so well.

It's just my opinion, but it's true.

Let's quickly compare iMPC to its closest rival, Beatmaker 2, in perhaps, the most important factor for iOS musicians --- how to get audio in/out.

iMPC offers AudioCopy/Paste and iTunes file sharing for getting audio in/out. Beatmaker 2 offers those in addition to Dropbox and FTP. The latest update of Beatmaker 2 (Version 2.4.2) offers the iTunes file sharing, which I haven't yet updated. The more widely used SDK for AudioCopy/Paste, SonomaWireWorks, is in iMPC.

http://code.google.com/p/intua-audio-sharing/

Both can upload to SoundCloud.

Why do I like iMPC?

I like that iMPC has a faux-vinyl player (corny!). Well, it allows me to quickly go from different sections in a song (quick ff/rw, slow ff/rw). It also remains where you were last in the song, so while you edit your chop, you don't have to find your place again.

I like that I'm forced to categorize my samples [this will probably help Studio/Renaissance users more-so]. It uses a date/time filing system - not to overwrite previous samples (ie. "sample_1" gets overwritten by "sample_1").

I like that iMPC supports mp3, I know-I know… Only sample from vinyl, only sample from WAV/AIFF. Yet if you plan to distribute [some of] your songs via mp3, should you care?

I like that I can use iMPC within Tabletop. For one thing, Tabletop was the first iOS app that I spent any time learning. I'm familiar with the way it sequences and it's pretty easy to learn. You might like it, too.

For those don't like iOS or software in general, for sampling, why? I, and many others see their purpose in situations such as: a limited set-up [no space in your room, traveling], quick to begin sampling [no hooking up 1/4'' cables, getting proper recording level]. Just boot-up the application.

By the way, I posted a picture earlier with 8 iMPCs inside Tabletop. That was an "exaggeration". You'll only be able to adequately use 7, I think, (I haven't tried using that many yet nor do I really care about using any more than 1, at this time).

For on the go and/or minimal set-up, iMPC is great. I find it quick to sample in iMPC. I hope this app might help speed this process for me. You can always use those chops and re-sample or load into a hardware sampler.

iMPC is no renaissance... or is it? [pause]

What I'd like to see in a future update:
-Some bugs fixed (I already emailed and received a reply-back from Retronyms)
-Zoom in/out in sample edit mode (my thought is to have a scroll bar above (to zoom-in the audio waveform and a scroll bar below to zoom-out the audio waveform.
-Longer sampling time

Seriously Jah.....I mean dude , Haitians don't even grow sh!+ strong enough to make someone think the Numark's rebranded freeware is in the same league as Beatmaker 2.

A better MPC app would not compete with their main product. And no one is asking that they release their main product as a $6 app. We are just saying that it should at least compete with BM2. Doesn't have to do every single thing that the Ren or Beat maker does, but damn, 4 tracks and no chopping? C'mon son! And the drm thing someone brough up? Extra wack. Like I said, they coulda just made a better app and charged more money. The $6 is not the issue. The issue is that if you buy something that turns out to be a log of shit, you're gonna be mad that you spend your money no matter if it was $2 or $100. It's the principle.

And for $5 being that pads are tracks on maschine, you get 48 tracks with iMaschine given the 4 groups they give you.

Mad about what a $6 app can or can't do? You guys are taking sh!t to a level I thought I would never see coming from grown folks. Lol

As limited as it is, I like it. As a 60 user I'm used to using 1 Program so no biggie.

My only gripes rite now is sample editing for imported samples, sequence chaining / arranging, and folder support for iTunes Filesharing for better sample management.
Add 8 - 16 Tracks or give us a Legacy Style Mixer with pad routing and Audiobus!

Other than that I enjoy using it.

Perfectly said. I agree. The pad routing and audio bus is a must. It's one of things that make NanoStudio's TRG drum machine good.

It's funny to see people so dependent on auto chopping and slicing that they can't function without it. I love the impc app. Although I use it for musical exercise - so to speak. Not for creating full compositions. The NanoStudio on the other hand. I can make beautiful full compositions on it.

Blunt way of putting it but I have to agree.. It's an iPad app, stop judging it like its a hardware MPC. :smoker:

We did! But you'd think with all the feedback we all gave about this nearly a year ago that Akai would not have released it with only 4 tracks! Has nothing to do with the $6. They coulda just made a better app and charged more money and people would have happily paid it.

Word. I agree completely.

And Ill-green..
"You probably wipe your ass with six dollars but I knew kids that got killed for such. Six dollars is a meal, a gallon of milk, a bag of reefer, a liter of gas, a quart of oil, going and coming train fare, bottle of asprin, a magazine, a birthday card, aftershave, a hammer, ballpoint pen, a record, a CD, a knife and most of all, toilet paper."

:-D great point. I'm far from wiping my ass w/ cash though. Just as broke as the rest of us.

No one is mad about anything. I wouldn't use it even if it was as good as beat maker. I'm just pointing out how 4 tracks is wack. And it's not $6, it's $7 ($6.99). And that price is only limited. So can we please drop talk about the price and focus conversation on what the app can/can't do?!

The one thing I do like about it though is the interface. Looks really good. I like how the machine looks kinda beat up and worn.
