I've seen plenty of MPC 5000 errors in my time but never that one. Sorry man.

Are they? Do they use the same bootloader?

You might want to consult Nukai on that one. Don't know how much reliable info they can give you on proto runs (especially since they don't seem to good with the regular production runs to begin with from what I've read around here) but I can't imagine anyone else that could help unless you happen to know somebody who was on the development team. It's possible there's a special upgrade file that can turn that into a "normal" 5000 but it's not impossible that a hard-coded component was changed in the hardware.

Good point. I'll try and contact that dude. I read all over the place there the same but maby the differance in rev on the board could have different os. It seams like it needs a sysex firmware. I work at a electronic music instermint manufacture and we load firmware this way. But I know akai is different. I flashed my 4000 once with a ground wire and had to replace some parts and got it to work but the 3500 is a funny beast.

I had a chance to buy one of these couple weeks back for $100 with same exact problem.

dude mentioned flashing over midi or something, otherwise I think new logic board/cpu assembly would clear up the problem
