Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Akai set the wholesale price which the retailer pays, retailer sets the retail price which you pay. Retailer will keep the price as high as possible as long as possible to protect their profit margin. The bigger retailers get better terms on stock because they sell more.

I'm happy with my purchase. If it was under $500 new I wouldn't consider it"professional "gear. You're getting the AKAI name with 48 tracks and effects and MIDI and portability. All the free drumkits and samples I found online alone paid for it sevenfold.I love this lil joint. Perfect compliment to my SU700 my MO PHATT my JV 1010 and MY RS 5.Once I get my multitrack I'm murking EVERYTHING. MOVING!!!!!

I'm dead serious. I wish I had this 500 earlier. The timing and sound quality is crazy! .The workflow is much faster than THE SU700. I love how you can audition samples and perform different functions while the sequencer rolls. I think people expected to get a "one box solution .But as a.veteran dude who's bought mad gear since 92, you will never get everything in one piece of gear. This is the best hardware option under 600bucks new.IMHO

Well, I do it all in the box. The 500 is very capable to be a sampler/multitrack. You just have to forget its a sampler and record like a multitracker. It was my sketchpad for Gasmask Tortures and I had the 128 RAM already filled with just 5 songs of beats and vocals. I would put a verse on pad 3 and verse 2 pad 6 etc. And because of wav file capabilities I can send to my laptop and from my laptop to the MV and really get serious.

ill green:
You said you record verses into your 500. If I use a condenser mic hooked up to a phantom powered mixer or whatever.. and send it to the MPC and record. Does it sound good, you know, does it sound muggy at all? Could you tell it is a big ass sample?
Just thinking it's a good idea for me to try.

It'll sound very nice with a preamp indeed or phantom powered mixers. The 500 can sample while playing a sequence so you can sing or rap over a beat and it'll end up as its own sample without the beat, like an acapella. Extract quotes to create an echo effect with velocity, possibilities are endless when you use your imagination :D

500 can do long or short samples it doesn't matter as long you don't exceed the memory.

I used to do this exact same thing on the ASR-10. And if the 500 can do it, I'm sure it will be fine, just use that imagination.

The red ASR-X was the first sampler I saw and I wanted it but when the merchant showed me the price I backed off. I only had a hundred fifty on me that day, I knew I had to clean more backyards and move peoples furniture to get it.

I sold my ASR x Pro to get the less powerful but more fun to use 2kxlse2. Glad I did but now I find myself wanting another red beast.
