Just got my first MPC. Stoked 150%. Producer of 10+ years so I'm knowledgeable about this stuff.

As I go through the manual, I'm realizing that I might not have the Akai OS because the manual is talking about menu items that I don't see. Check the Ebay listing, sure enough, it has JJ OS 3.10.

Now wondering what the best way is to learn this machine. There's a "manual" online for JJ OS, but it's like, only about specific things. I still want to go through the motions and learn to load samples from an audio CD, data CD, create programs, edit samples. Should I stick with the Akai manual to learn these basic actions?

Is there a "From Scratch You Are A Retarded Beginner" Guide for JJ OS out there, apart from the "manual" that JJ offers here? http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/version3e.htm

You're in luck. The guide sold on this site is a no-brainer for someone trying to get into the MPC and it covers JJOS 3

Yep, I wrote it:

Contains two separate books - one for Akai OS and one for the free JJOS (current version 3.15). To make sure you have the free JJOS (as the paid version, JJOS2XL also had a version 3.10), go to MODE and pad 10. Does it say 'JJOS2XL: 3.10'? or just JJOS: 3.10?

Will keep in mind when/if I upgrade the OS. Pretty much getting the hang of the thing by going through the process of beatmaking. Lovin' it. Thanks.
