Bizarre. It's now called MPC Fly 30 and has a 30 pin connector for iPad 2 and 3, the exact opposite of what Akai told Flux 302 at NAMM in his interview video.

I'd need this thing to be no more than $150 it's worth to even consider it. At $299 it's robbery.

I would also hope for improvements to iMPC but I doubt we'll get them. The guy at Retronyms said anything that they might add or improve on has to come from Akai as a direct request, they can't just freestyle with it. (which as competent coders they could).

Looking at the huge oversights in the app and that the splash screen is an out of place "commercial" for the Ren, I doubt making this app function like even a legacy 2000 or XL is high on their list. Would love to be wrong the app has potential, but is laughable in some very key respects.

Hopefully the red is focused on because Akai means red haha, I've seen black prototypes numerous times actually in pictures and videos.

On Instagram. Akaipro is saying 199.00 and its supposed to be available for purchase on their website. The dont say how much the lightening connector one will be. But IMHO the app is still way too crippled for me to ever consider buying a dedicated peripheral just for it. I like the app but not enough to spend extra bucks on it. It needs serious work. In using Beatmaker2 for my ipad stuff until they add more features.

Well the 30 pin at that price point is a lot more reasonable. But an extra hundo for one with the newer connector that costs probably .52 cents more is still robbery. But I have 30 pin units so...

Yeah man no doubt, the Core MIDI compliance is where this thing gets attractive. Like you alluded to psr, this thing will be nice with BM2 and nano studio and more "prime time" ready apps.

Be prepared though. Because with the 30 pin one they really are just getting rid of those devices they already built before they released the lightning adapter. So you can pretty much bet there will be zero support for them. Also are you 100 on the core midi thing. If that is true that does add some value I suppose.

Yeah the Core MIDI angle was confirmed from jump on this thing. It just got confusing because they then went and made iMPC with no Core MIDI on purpose... (Tabletop Core MIDI the offered solution).

You have a point on the clear out the stock angle. But provided the initial firmware is solid I don't see what support I would really need. (I assume it would have firmware like the Alesis dock) Only major changes to iOS Core MIDI in a potential iOS 7 or 8 would necessitate a new firmware rev. Even then I don't see Apple changing Core MIDI/Audio much on iOS if at all.

It's already almost reminding me of how I have a 1000 and 2500 to NOT run Akai's software haha. I may get one at $199, I see a used one at $150 I definitely will.

I surely would but I seldom actually take my iPads anywhere. So Alesis and CCK are fine for me. But I may still get it just to make the iPads that much more useful.

Appreciate that psr, hadn't ventured over there yet. Even if it's red only I may do it.

Flux302 said they pads didn't hit as nice as Studio and Ren which I'm inclined to believe. I know it's the newer LPD/Ren style pad construction but with the MPD/1000 Updated Pads it was always the gap/mounting. And the low profile and I would guess less weight than the Studio could explain why it's less sensitive.

But I'll wait to hear about extended use. But if the pads aren't as good as say a Korg nanoPAD, maybe I'm cool, because the clam shell case aspect while dope is not the main draw for me. (Occasional bus ride, and high school kids just wild out once they realize what your doing... )

The Akai website/ordering page states that it is core midi so it should work fine with Beatmaker2. Its a shame Akai has hamstrung Retronyms by dictating that critical features are held back. Retronyms has the capabilities to implement the features customers are screaming for, but Akai is calling the shots. Meanwhile, nimble, responsive competitors such as Intua (Beatmaker) and SamplR are speeding ahead delivering feature rich updates at an astonishing rate:)
