Doesn't Rewire allow this? I know the the Ren hasn't got it (yet), but Rewiring Reason to Cubase several years ago was a seamless experience.

I believe I got it. This appears to be the same functionality as the MPC 3000 and MPC 4000. You can assign a program to an MPC track and also send MIDI at the same time.

With the MPC 3000, I can trigger the internal program and two MIDI devices from the pads simultaneously.

My current work around would be to:
1. Use the Ren for what it was designed to do to bang out a nice drum groove in its sequencer using a an MPC Drum Track

2. Then change that very track to a MIDI track

3. When you arm you DAW to record, the MIDI you previously recorded on the MPC track will be recorded.

rewire would mean having two programs open more cpu being used just like having to load up the plugin to simply control say battery using the midi track in the mpc and not pgm

simply adding the feature of pads to midi notes would deal with this for the pgm and controller mode for controlling something else without having to load the actual plugin

exactamondo

Do you agree controller mode is better than loading up the plugin in ableton you wouldnt need to do anything once its been setup it would just receive the controls the way it does now but at the moment without any structure or setup to use all the buttons of the mpc ie banks octave up down and so on

Yeah, you can't really beat some form of controller mode for that scenario. Any CPU hit from using Rewire would be negligible once the Ren is multi-core compatible though.

I agree thats why flexibility is the one because you might actually just want to use rewire have the standalone in the work flow as some people do if i want to use reason i do that using rewire as i cant stand the sequencer

some people who say wouldnt want a Ren for the software sequencer as they are happy with and used to what they use but like the Ren hardware and its potential to control along with the chopshop and other things or what ever rewire would attract them into buying the Ren as it does someone who doesnt want to use reason's seq but would like to use the things in reason

I re-read this. So basically, your idea sounds like something someone would do when using a keyboard workstation as a controller and a sound module but using a DAW as the sequencer. In this scenario, the end user when turn the Local OFF in the the keyboard workstation. The keys of the workstation would be used to record into the DAW. The DAW would then trigger sounds in the keyboard.

Sounds like pads to midi to me

You have a mashine right? could you load it up in say ableton load up a kit you will have to record into the maschine software no?

Turn on pads to midi and record a seq you will see what I mean it will record that seq in the daw track which is what is needed/lacking along with controller mode

The question is why record into the DAW Track the plugin is hosted on?
By chopchop Mon Apr 22, 2013 3:37 pm
Because thats what we do when we make music with a plugin inside a daw its how we like to work with plugins its also fast/workflow

Its easier to see battery's sequence under say xln drum or a synth the last thing you want is to have to sequence that inside that plugin when the visual of everything else is outside in the track session view you at the very least want that option even if the plugin promotes its own sequencer inside itself

some people like plugins that have step seq and like to use it but even those have the option to do it both ways

why would you not want to do this and even more so when working with a full track sequence

No disrespect Jah but do you actually make music and finish songs or do you just jam with products of your choice which is fine each to their own but its seems to me like this basic need is alien to you in terms of why you would want to have this feature so thats why Im asking

The Ren is not your typical synth plugin. It's a sequencer and not a multimbral sound module. Recording into into the DAW track the Ren is hosted on would render it a sound module with a single channel....making it useless as currently designed. Every time you change a track inside the Ren, the DAW track you recorded in will then trigger that current Ren track which equals 'a hot mess' instead of music.

You can record MIDI data from the Ren into a DAW but on a MIDI track or Instrument track that doesn't host the Ren plugin all from the Ren's pads.

One of the strengths of the Ren is its ability to sequence plugins hosted within your DAW. A technique that has been used by MPC users for a decade plus. There are tutorials on this site which showcase this.

If you make music with various music production gear, then you know all perform differently. There are only 2-3 products on the market that is similar in concept. They all do things the others don't. Good idea or bad idea, these products will never have every single feature users ask for. So if everyone's goal is to simply write feature requests and/or keep their Ren in a box....no music is being created.

Thats the option you want to be able to use one program at a time and be able to seq that in your daw its very basic and what you want from a plugin I cant understand why you think this is not normal and every plugin that i know of that has a sequencer allows you to sequence it either both inside the plugin and the daw the choice is yours

I dont know where you get hot mess from if i seq my PGM from inside my daw as it is now it plays perfect no problem at all but the problem is i have to draw that sequence in and cant jam it from the pads

maschine gets around the fact that you render the actual plugin to that one pgm program by letting you load up more than one plugin at a time
By chopchop Mon Apr 22, 2013 4:37 pm
maschine can also load up plugins inside your daw just like the ren this is not really a strength its a standard as is Pads to midi note and controller mode

MIDI mode would allow the MPC Ren hardware to control other software and in a way that is configurable and user assignable.... if you need to ask why.... well either you're new or maybe you should move on to something else, knitting?... Water Polo?
