One can easily flip that around and say...."if you don't like the way the Ren performs, you should move on to something else....like what ever you were doing before Aug 2012...." But I won't say that as it is unnecessary just like your comment.

You wont say that.... like you just did right there :WTF:

Stop telling people what they should like and/or expect out of the MPC Renaissance, you are constantly telling people what the MPC Renaissance is, isn't, and should be.... STOP IT!

Besides that you do a lot of helping around here and that is appreciated and definitely your better side 8)

I said no such thing. I simply referenced an argument some one else could make which was more elegantly put than your comments. :P

Stating what the Ren is or isn't can be done by anyone that can read the manual. But this often goes over folks' heads so I simply reiterate the obvious. Anyone demanding the Ren to do more than what it is advertised to do should not buy the product....or at least don't complain about it when you already knew (or should have reasonably known) what to expect prior to making the purchase.

What I say or imply what the Ren/Studio should be is no different than everyone else's ideas or feature requests...just being overzealous and giving my opinions. New ideas and feature requests make up the majority of posts here....nothing wrong with that. But placing demands or becoming irate because it doesn't meet your expectations is silly as you are not obligated to use the product. And attempting to insult a forum member (you or anyone else) or imply what they do or don't do as far as music because they have a different opinion is dumb. One can say that "if you can't use the Ren as designed to create music when someone else can...perhaps the problems lies with you and your lack of creatvity or cleverness to make do with a tool that already surpasses anything you could do on similar products released a decade ago that were used to make monster hits." (Whew...a mouth full.) But I won't say that as it is unnecessary.

I frequent this site daily specifically looking to help anyone having troubles or need some tips in using the Ren/Studio. Participating in threads such as this one breaks up the monotone and adds entertainment value in the forums.

Every single great idea posted in this forum since 2008 I have sent to Akai....including the ones I have no use for and ideas from those that have insulted me. It would be a boring product if only catered to just one or a few folks' needs.

In fact, this would be useful for all those don´t want to sequence in the REN but in the DAW.

The Ren has a nice workflow but no good automation system ( not really working at the moment), no big editing option any real DAW has ( Cut, Copy, Paste, yes.. but Duplicate, Oct+/-, Add velocity, limit velocity, etc...) At least it needs an edit menu and some more shortcuts. And, shortcut for me don´t work in plugin mode (copy cut paste ).

To resume, this plugin needs more Virtual Outputs (64 Mono/32 Stereo), PADS to MIDI option disabling internal sequencer and Multiple Midi channels for Multiple programs controls. Then it may be perfect to use for all.

I actually make music with the Ren but all the time, I´m switching from the standalone to my DA, this is source of contrariety.

It's all good JAH, I was just completely floored that you couldn't see the the benefits of using the Renaissance as a general MIDI controller along side it's intended use.

...and I can make music just fine with it, I've been able to make music with it since 1.0 but it did and still could use a "lot" of improvements.

I have never finished a single beat in a DAW. They are nothing but digital tape recorders to me. I am an MPC user so I use the Ren like a hardware MPC without the biggest limitations of hardware MPCs. I was floored you would take an MPC (Ren that is) and use it in a way completely ignoring its strengths. Using a DAW to sequence drums instead of an MPC in your possession is blasphemy....goes against all laws of nature. :P

The mpc software is most definitely improving with each upgrade

PGM to midi will just make the plugin much more useful say for instance

My chopped up sample based music gets done in the ren standalone full stop and maybe pianos, bass but nothing much more

I like to mix as I go so ill export from the ren and add synths or what ever in my daw by the time I get ton my daw the use of the ren use done if im working this way

no trouble

But

If as I do sometimes depending on the track want to seq in live and build everything in there but use the ren on say a sample chop or just drums Id like to seq that in my daw too with everything else.

As It stands I just cant work the way it is so I use something else instead of the ren plugin when thats what Id rather use even more so for tapping my drums out but still have it go straight to live like everything else.

People here seem to agree its a very useful feature for the plugin so hopefully we see it implemented in 1.4 PGM to midi notes seems like a small tweak but Im no programmer I could be wrong

It's not that it should be used for entering notes in a DAW (though it could be used for that) but one example would be to trigger clips in Ableton by switching to MIDI mode and then back to controlling the MPC software so you could use them together in a Live performance situation. Another use might to control various things in Traktor so you could do a sort of Live/DJ thing using both the MPC and Traktor while everything is synced up.

Having it double as a general MIDI controller would open up a lot of possibilities on stage without the need for a separate MIDI controller for your other software.

Highly unlikely for 1.4 which is in beta. And then it would have to leap frog several hundred other features requests that forum members also find would be very useful. Don't want to be a damper on your spirits...but that is reality.

:) I think this part is for me ... 3:)

It´s 2013, DAWs has same swing possibilities + Way more editing tools  :P

I´m nice with the REN, I adapted my workflow and I enthusiastically perform beats since 1.1 and have been very pleased by the v1.31, Akai must continue to update to the apogee ! I can´t wait to use the v1.4 !

Playing live being able to launch desired sequences, control whatever synths, chop samples, drum tracks and do what you want.

A full blown controler is way desired.

And if it is a bad ass chop shop that is the greatest marriage for me.

If I could flip over drum, chop and slice in my Ren and DAW. Then flip over and launch the seqeunces I made in the Ren as well as my DAW It would be perfect. I can do it now but I have to use my mouse to launch my sequences. When I would love to use the MPC.

I mite be missing something. If so please tell me how. I have tried to midi learn to launch clips with the pads and I have failed to figure it out. So I humble myself and ask how. And Jah I appriciate all the dedacation you have for this forum. I hope that your well taken care of.

I just dont understand how Abelton and Akai have not goten on the same page. I purchased both with the asumtion they were compatable. I mean Akai does make there controlers.

It depends on whether you are using the Ren as a plugin host or as an actual plugin on whether you can map the Ren via MIDI learn or automation.

When I hosted Battery 4 in the Ren, I had to click on Battery's Automation learn. And I was able to quickly map the Qlinks to Battery.

I had to do a similar thing in Pro Tools when I wanted to map the Ren to other plugins within Pro Tools. I couldn't get it to work initially. But then I activated the [record] button on the Pro Tools VST track which allowed it to receive MIDI from the Ren VST.

Not sure if any of this is useful for your situation. How are clips launched in Live? Is it via MIDI note numbers or MIDI CC messages? Can an MPD or external keyboard launch these clips? I am not very familar with Live. I have the demo version. If you helped me understand how it works perhaps we can work together to find a solution.

I know you at least need to go into the Ableton Preferences and choose the MIDI device as a control surface, then turn on Track and Remote on the input.

Essentially you should be able to get it set up to work controlling Ableton but you might need to make a remote script which defines the way that the controller connects to the Ableton API.

I don't think anybody has done this yet but last night I was setting up some controllers with a lemur and I accidentally started turning on a bunch of random lights on the Renaissance.

So that makes me think that with a proper script you might be able to control Ableton with bi-directional communication, but it's beyond a basic user unless they want to do a bunch of reading and digging in.

Also if you did pull it off, you'd only be able to either use the MPC as a generic MIDI controller or as a controller for the MPC software but not both at the same time. Without some way to sever the connection to the MPC software it will continue to steal the data coming from the controller.
